Safety mechanism

If you do not put the 2011 Ford Edge in park and leave the car, it rolls. There should be a safety mechanism that you cannot shut the car off unless it is in park. Can this feature be added to our 2011 Ford Edge?

It is a safety requirement to be able to shut off the engine for many reasons, such as the cruise control being stuck at 80% or more open, or other mechanical problems.

Also those who tow a Edge behind a motorhome need to leave their car in netural, with the steering unlocked, and tow it for hours behind their RV.

Perhaps a chime if the transmission is not in park would be a great idea, then you will know to shift to park and shut off the headlights.
