2.5-2.7L EcoBoost Engine

By J. T.

Why hasn't Ford come out with a 2.5-2.7L Ecoboost engine yet? Currently you have the 2.0L and then you jump all the way up to the 3.5L EB. Something in the 2.5-2.7L range would be ideal as it would slot right inbetween these two size wise. You could then use it to make a 2013 Fusion Sport. Also it would be a much better fit in the Taurus and especially in the Explorer as the 2.0L EB that you have in them now is woefully underpowered for these vehicles because they weigh so much. That engine has to work (regardless of the torque it has) way to hard in these large and heavy vehicles and as such it really isn't a very good fit.

Ditto on the Aluminum Explorer and while you are at it, include the full Vairable Valve Timing, intake & exhaust with an extra set of injectors up stream in the intake manifold, for an occasional intake valve cleaning.

The 2.7 needs to be offered in the Explorer (which should be built from aluminum by the way) and the Fusion.

the 2.7 ecoboost will be built in the Lima Ohio engine plant.

Cast an eyeball on the Detroit Auto Show. The 2.7EB is here. Supposedly only in the F150 for 2014, but at the power and torque specs, a nice hotrod for a Fusion.

This would be so awesome! i am planning on buying a 2015 or 2016 and an Ecoboost 2.5 or 2.7 would be exactly what I am looking for! Does anyone know where it will be built? I am kind of leary of the 2.0 from Spain after all of the issues with the 1.6 from England!

I was hoping for a normally aspirated direct-injected 3.7L in the next gen MKX putting out about 325 HP.

Actually Ford is developing both a 2.5L Ecoboost & a 2.7L Ecoboost. The 2.5 will find its way in to Ford products while the 2.7 will for now be a Lincoln exclusive- first in the MKZ. Expect outputs of about 275HP & 290HP for each. They should be available for the 2015 model year.

This would be excellent in Edge/MKX, Explorer/Aviator?, and Flex/MKT!!! It would be a true powerful and efficient engine in that vehicle size market!!!

It was my understanding that the rumour mill is already talking about a 2-3.0L V6 EB from Ford.
