Placement of heat vents

When you turn on the heat your upper body and feet get warm. But what about your knees. I think that some of the vents should be low enough to where the warm air hits the knee area. Place the vents at the base of the dash. My legs get cold too.

This used to be a common feature in cars of the '70's and 80's. Why no more?

FYI, there are vents at the bottom of the dash on the C-Max
