Cmax as emergency power

With their large battery and efficient high power generator setup it should be very easy to offer an optional package that allows your car to supply your home as a backup generator. While having a few 120V standard plugs is a nice feature I'm talking about full home back up power, or emergency generator at power appropriate to shelters, first responder command post level needs. Wired properly a home charging station could double as a power source for the whole home with less additional wiring than people put in for back up generators. Keep the price low enough that it is competitive with current home backup power solutions and it would be a very strong sales point, especially in areas with recurrent natural disasters (FL, CA)

The ability to pull instantly from the battery as a buffer (or for extended periods of low draw without running the engine, especially in extended range models) the low noise, high efficiency, and much cleaner emissions makes this a much better option than traditional portable or built in back up generation.

Just the electrical connection being available makes EVERY ford hybrid a potential emergency response support vehicle.

-Extended (pipe dream) option-
To extend this an option to connect the engine to a natural gas supply for lower power running as a generator, and a connection that allows the waste heat from the engine to be used as a space heater, or to heat water would be even better.
-end pipe dream-

What a great idea. What percent of families have the money to buy a generator for one or two uses a year? From the greater needs described above to more simple ones of safely charging a portable home power unit to provide lighting in power outages. This option would not only provide a family with the transportation but stand in as alternative power for the home in cases of emergencies. When buyers comparing value, features, and price points between car companies I would bet this feature would tip the scales in Ford’s favor. (Ford should jump on this idea and retrofit it for their current models too. Your Cmax owners seem to be your only marketing tool at the moment. Sorry to say but it is true.)

I also would like to see this as a factory supported option.

I have thought of this also. I live in an area where we have lost power 30+ days over the last few years. I would like this car to have a "home power mode". You could switch it into this mode and it would provid DC power to an output connector. The homeowner would just connect that to a power inverter that provides a nice clean 110 volt AC power to the house panel. Using the C-max energi batteries to provide power is good for people who have well pumps and other electro-mechanical systems. The batteries can provide enough current to start those motors.
For the "home power mode" they can add a CO sensor for safety. This could turn off the gas motor if it senses too much CO. Finally this would be much more efficient for emergency backup power then a generator. There is a much better muffler on cars, better pollution controls (catalytic converter etc), and the gas motor would only have to be on when the batteries need to be recharged.
Another plus is you don't have to deal with gas cans. When it gets close to empty, unhook it from the house and drive to the gas station to fill it up.
