Five Ford Technologies for the Fourth of July

By Charlie S.

Fourth of July is fast approaching, and we know that you are getting ready to hit the road in your Ford vehicle to check out the local fireworks show, for a family getaway or spend a day relaxing at a friend’s house on the lake.

No matter what you do, the available technology that Ford offers on select vehicles can make your Fourth of July a little bit easier this year. Here are five available Ford innovations that could come in handy this holiday:

Hands-free Liftgate

This technology is perfect for the firework aficionado who just had to go back into the store and grab one more jumbo pack of goodies before heading to the party. This often leads to a conundrum: no free hands to pull the latch. With this innovation, that’s not a problem.

This technology is available on Ford C-MAX and Escape, and it works in concert with an Intelligent Access key. With the key in your pocket, all you need to do is kick your foot under the bumper to automatically open the power liftgate, letting you easily drop off all of your fireworks without fumbling around for your keys.

And with fireworks involved, less fumbling is always a good thing.

SecuriCode™ Keyless Entry Keypad

Arriving at the party, you grab your swimsuit, the watermelon, the potato salad, the lawn chairs, the fireworks, and the bag of charcoal for the grill… hands full, you hit the lock with your elbow, close the door with your foot, and immediately have an awful realization: your keys are locked inside.

With available SecuriCode™ Keyless Entry Keypad on select Ford vehicles, that’s no longer a problem. Just enter the programmed five-digit code into the driver’s-side keypad, and you’re back in business. The next-generation keypad is designed with the latest in touch-sensitive technologies, similar to what you’d find in a modern smartphone. In keeping with this design style, the keypad is discretely hidden until you activate it.

Ambient Lighting

Sometimes, the firework show just needs a little extra visual accompaniment. If you’re watching from inside your Ford, and it features available ambient lighting, you can choose the color of your interior to perfectly match the show in front of you.

You can select from Ice blue, soft blue, orange, red, green, blue and purple. While you can’t quite get ed, white and blue, two out of three isn’t bad.

SYNC® AppLink™

Not content with merely providing thematic lighting to complement to the fireworks? Check out SYNC® AppLink™ (available on select Ford vehicles), which lets you control apps like Pandora from your supported smartphone using voice commands and buttons on your steering wheel.

Once you’ve selected your favorite Fourth of July station, you can sit back and listen to the music stream through your car’s audio speakers: a perfect addition to the show. Naturally, data charges may apply from your cellular service provider.

Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®)

Ford has a technology available on select models that can aid you in being aware of what is going on around you on the road. The available Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®) system uses radar to help detect cars that are lurking in your blind spot. When a vehicle is detected, a warning light appears in the appropriate side mirror.

This technology also features cross-traffic alert to detect vehicles approaching from the sides when you’re backing out of a driveway or parking spot. With a range of up to 45 feet, this system sends an audible warning, a visual indicator in the corresponding mirror and a signal in the message center if it detects an oncoming vehicle.
