Mustang Fan Names New V6 Performance Package

By Ford Social Member

They used to say, if you want something done, give it to a busy person. Now? Give it to Facebook! That’s just what Ford did, handing over the important duty of naming the 2012 Ford Mustang V6 Performance Package to nearly 1.4 million Mustang fans, because undoubtedly they would have an opinion or two. And that they did – more than 3,000 submissions were made to the Mustang Facebook page and almost 6,700 users installed the “You Name It” app.

“We saw great enthusiasm from fans, with tons of creative, unique names coming in,” said Brian McClary, Ford social and emerging media specialist. “The contest was twofold – it let us engage with fans by letting them have a say, and it helped build awareness for the package.”

Facebook fans were asked to suggest a name on the Facebook page and reach out to their friends in the social media world to help propel their choice into the top five. A gallery on the page let visitors see all the choices that could be voted on. After the five most-voted names were selected, Ford chose the name that best shows off the personality of the package. Each finalist was run through trademark, copyright and brand approvals.

And right about now you’re probably salivating to hear what this new package is named. A shoutout to Jeremy Marler of Charlotte, North Carolina, who submitted the winning name, Mayhem Mustang Package. It will be used on all Mustang sales, marketing and communications materials specific to this package. And what did Jeremy win? A three-year lease on a 2012 Mustang equipped with the Mayhem Mustang Package!

The Mayhem Mustang Package takes advantage of the Mustang’s 305-horsepower all-aluminum Ti-VCT V6 engine’s lightweight and high-revving nature. Borrowing from the Mustang GT, there are numerous suspension, braking and body stiffening upgrades to deliver unparalleled handling performance. That road-holding is helped by a near-equal front/rear weight distribution, providing exceptional transient response along with the car’s slimmed-down curb weight of less than 3,500 pounds.

The package includes 3.31 rear axle ratio for quicker off-the-line acceleration, Mustang GT coupe front and rear stabilizer bars, Mustang GT front struts and rear shocks/springs, Shelby GT500 rear lower control arm, unique 19-inch wheels, Pirelli performance tires for improved grip, Mustang GT front and rear brake calipers with Performance Friction pads, strut tower brace for increased body rigidity, unique electronic stability control calibration with sport mode for performance driving and special badging.

@carl they are discontinuing the ranger sales in America. After the end of this year you cannot buy a new Ranger in the United States, they will only have it in other countries.
Roger Sunderland 05/12/2011
Meh. "Mayhem" sounds too much like an Alstate commercial.

BTW, the 68 GT500KR came with a 428CJ. The 429CJ was a one year only offering in the Mustang in 1971. Two completely different engines.
Chris Rae 05/12/2011
Who cares if the v6 is slower i'd rather be late in a ford than early in anything else
Demetrius 05/12/2011
Although it has the same amount of horsepower it will not outperform it. Plus, it is easier to beef up mods on the old 4.6 liter. test my v8 if you want to.....
jim spence 05/12/2011
with a few little ford tricks my '05 v6 mustang will out run most v8s. much lighter and gets the RPMs up faster........i have spent less than $800 on extras that sets this v6 apart from others.
Carl Allen 05/12/2011
@ryan that has nothing to do with bail out money!! Plus how could Ford be discontuing the Ranger if it is still going to be built someplace else.
Ryan Clark 05/11/2011
@ Carl Allen, The reason I bought a Ford was because FMC was willing to give me a loan at 18 with no credit history. You want to talk about bailouts and Chevrolet ? How about Ford discontinuing the Ranger, Putting thousands of workers out of work in Minneapolis, MN, and building this new Ranger in Thailand ?
Sammy Gunn 05/11/2011
For those of us who bought cars in the 80's and 90's, it's hard to feel any sympathy for people complaining about a lack of horsepower.
Brandon Nelson 05/11/2011
Yup, trans am's are amazing, that's why gm has produced them nonstop to meet market demand for them... Oh wait
Carmen Veneziale 05/11/2011
Well did I win !
Angel Hernandez 05/11/2011
If you want fast ditch the Mustang and get a Trans Am. Or any other chevy car.
Drew Green 05/11/2011
SVO = Special Vehicle Operations, the V6 is 3.7L. The SVO was indeed a 4 Cyl. turbo.
Franke Constancio 05/11/2011
name it "Should have bought a V8" package.ha
Carl Allen 05/11/2011
The reason I bought a Ford in the first place was because they didn't take a bailout. I have since owned two of them. Very well made product and very happy with them. FORD RULES
Paul Vigil 05/11/2011
What is the size of the V-6 motor in liters? I think there was a turbo charged 4 cylinder motor back in the 80's called the SVO. Special Vehicle ??? Anyone remember what that stood for?? How about the 5.0 L SVO or the V-6 SVO ??
Carl Allen 05/11/2011
agreed I hate the new Camaro and Challenger. LOVE the Mustang
Carl Allen 05/11/2011
@Sean, I agree. this is the Ford page!! if someone wants a camaro go to the Chevy page. I love my FORD and would really like to have a 2011 V-6 Mustang :)
Brent Henry 05/11/2011
Mayhem? how about Colt Six for the Performance V6 Mustang? Colt Six would have a more Pony/Horse/Western connected name, and Ford could even put a 6 Shooter Revolver Dial where the rear Faux Gas cap is! and of course have "Colt Six" embossed onto that 6 Shooter Revolver Dial, aka Faux Gas cap. Plus all the other special upgrades for the Performance V6 Mustang, plus they could have other logos on the interior, and maybe a unique side graphic as well.

Either Colt Six or something else, but Mayhem? really?
Mark Pesta 05/11/2011
As a taxpayer why would buy anything other than a Ford? No bail out, and whatever mustang you decide to buy will out perform the competion and costs less with better fuel mileage.
Gary Bellman G 05/11/2011
In OZ we have the 2010 4.9 GT
But the XY GTHO is the best, and farstest broduction car in 71. still the best today.
Brian Levix 05/11/2011
The 3.7 is in no way a waste of money. It performs very well, gets good mileage, and its very affordable. A v6 challenger is a waste of money.
Gary Bellman G 05/11/2011
Yeh 4 cyls
matt hilburn 05/11/2011
That is a terrible name. should have stuck with performance package or SVO.
Mike Olsen 05/11/2011
I'd love to get my hands on the 68' GT 500 KR with the 429 Cobra Jet, now that was a muscle car that looked great
Jeremy Marler 05/11/2011
Hey I know that Guy!
Rick Stamper 05/11/2011
remember guys, the mustang started out as a secretaries car. i agree with Ryan Clark, but to each his own. Ford needs the V6 sales just as badly.
Gary Bellman G 05/11/2011
Why do people add Chev's to this comment ?? it's a FORD....
Elliott Miller 05/11/2011
Camaro? Yuck, no thanks.
Homer Wagner 05/11/2011
They should drop in the 3.5 ecoboost and crank up the boost and only offer it with the manual transmission would be loads of fun not to mention tire smoke.
Sean T. Athey 05/11/2011
Ford has long been behind in the HP game!! I had an '01 GT that had 260hp, my wife has an '08 Charger with a V6 that has 250!! It's about time Ford has stepped up it's game!!
As for any Camaro comments, go to the Chevy page & stay off ours!!
Will Prattis 05/11/2011
Show your ponies package
Diego Ce 05/11/2011
argentina reaches???
Chuck Brannen 05/11/2011
I think one of these days we will be getting a notice in the mail saying these horsepower ratings are over rated just like the lawnmower people did a few years ago.
Cory Harrow 05/11/2011
its called the 2012 camaro
Cory Harrow 05/11/2011
there is another car that has 312 hp for $22,000
Bryce Campbell 05/11/2011
It goes faster than you thank it does!!!!!
Ed Huff 05/11/2011
Call it "Maverick" or better yet the "Pinto Package"
Reilly W. Dettling 05/11/2011
very nice.
Alex Earley 05/11/2011
its all about how you tune it v8 is better and easyer to tune but the 6 is just for looks or to say hey I've got one
Josh Turnbow 05/11/2011
name a car that has 305 hp for only 22.000....exactly you cant
Jay Wakaluk 05/11/2011
sure bud
Anders Holmgren 05/11/2011
The new V6 is cheaper and more fuel efficent than the V8. It also has an improved engine with 305-HP (speaking about 2010-->2011 comparison). For some people, it's more fitting. Perhaps for those who can't afford a V8 and gas but still wants a Mustang. It's available for (almost) anyone.
Mark Boler 05/11/2011
I have a V6 Mustang and it goes fast. It has more HP than my 1988 V8 Mustang did.
Paul Moody 05/11/2011
many of you seem to forget the V6 Mustang now has HP equivalent to the prev GT engine.
Mike Olsen 05/11/2011
Thats what everybody said about the Buick Grand Nationals too
Ronald Creach 05/11/2011
I remember my 81 mustang had a 4 cylinder. Lol
Ryan Clark 05/11/2011
It would be like buying a 4cyl Hummer..
Ryan Clark 05/11/2011
a V6 Mustang is a waste of money...
