After much anticipation, the new 2020 Mustang Shelby® GT500® will arrive this fall with a super-charged blend of speed, engineering and technology. The Ford Performance team engineered the key ingredients to make the car a world-class performer: projected 700-plus horsepower, a class-exclusive dual-clutch transmission, exceptional brakes and suspension tuned for both the street and the racetrack.
The Shelby GT500 is the most powerful street-legal Ford vehicle ever, with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 that produces more than 700 horsepower.1 Using lessons from our racing programs – specifically the Ford GT and Mustang GT4 – the Shelby GT500 is equipped with a class-exclusive TREMEC® 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. This transmission is capable of shifts in under 100 milliseconds and has a number of drive modes including normal, sport, drag and track. The Shelby GT500 also features an electronic line-lock and launch control through selectable TrackApps.2
This powertrain makes the Shelby GT500 capable of mid-three-second 0-60 mph and sub-11-second quarter-mile scores on the track.
What makes this supercar a standout is its details. Every millimeter of the vehicle has been studied and refined to improve performance on the road, drag strip and track. The 2020 Shelby GT500 with track-tuned active chassis, with Ford performance Drive Modes make an advanced, ultimate performance vehicle. All this power comes in a cockpit with race-inspired materials, new finishes, colors and packages that take this vehicle into indulgence territory.
But we didn’t stop there. The Shelby GT500 has a race-worthy chassis, Ford Performance-spec Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires and 420-millimeter front brake rotors along with Brembo® six-piston calipers.
Also, the Shelby GT500 honors its Mustang heritage with a double front-grille. These angular grille openings and the sizable hood give the Shelby GT500 its fighter-jet inspired aerodynamics. It also has wider fenders, a standard new rear spoiler and updated composite rear diffuser for thermal management.
Two handling packages are available. One offers adjustable strut top mounts and a spoiler with a Gurney flap. The Carbon Fiber Track package has 20-inch carbon-fiber wheels with 0.5-inch wider rear wheels, custom Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, adjustable exposed carbon-fiber GT4 track wing and splitter wicker with integrated dive plane. The rear seat has been omitted to reduce weight.
The 2020 vehicle has new colors, including Red Hot, Twister Orange and Iconic Silver, with optional painted stripes. Inside, the Shelby GT500 has a cockpit with premium touches, including an exposed carbon-fiber instrument panel applique and door panel inserts in Dark Slate Miko® suede with accent stitching. Optional RECARO® racing seats add firm side bolstering and pass-throughs for safety harnesses. Power-adjustable seating with Miko suede inserts also are available.
To make driving the Shelby GT500 even sweeter, it has a 12-inch, full-color LCD instrument cluster, a high-performance, custom-tuned 12-speaker B&O Sound System by Bang & Olufsen and a 8-inch SYNC® 3 touchscreen featuring SiriusXM® Radio and FordPass Connect™.
