It’s official: the Ford F-Series line is the top-selling truck in the United States for 40 consecutive years. We couldn’t have done it without you, our loyal fans. Which is why we’re celebrating you helping us achieve these major milestones! Whether you’re a lifetime Ford enthusiasts or someone who more recently gave a Ford F-Series pickup a try, we’re inviting you use #40YearsTough with your social posts make your story part of this celebration.

How did the F-Series achieve 40 years of leadership? The story starts with the 6th generation F-150 truck; the 1977 model year. Disco was hitting the big screens in theaters, cassette tapes were overtaking vinyl albums for pre-recorded music and an iconic sci-fi movie debuted which would start a saga that continues to this day. And the Ford F-Series featured technical improvements including a new 351/400 Series of V8 engines replacing the FE Series of V8 engines. We introduced special models such as the F-100 Shorty FlareSide; a four-wheel-drive model with a 177-inch wheelbase and 6 ½ foot long FlareSide carbo bed.

The next 40 years would be filled with new platforms, new suspension systems, new frames, technical innovations, multiple generations of new engines and even the divergence of the F-Series into two truck platforms: the F-150 and the Super Duty® branded F-250 and F-350 heavy-duty pickups.

We continue that tradition of continuous innovation with the 2017 Ford F-150 and all-new 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty® series of trucks. Both feature high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy body. The F-150 features an available 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 delivering 375 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine provides proven performance in over a half-million F-150 pickups and now features standard auto start-stop technology and gives the F-150 a 12,200-lb. maximum tow rating. 1 The 2017 F-Series Super Duty® provides best-in-class conventional towing, 5th wheel/gooseneck towing, payload and GCWR.2 The Super Duty® is available with the 6.7L Power Stroke® turbo diesel, making it the class leader in diesel horsepower and torque. 2 Both the F-150 and the Super Duty® are available with more technology for towing, convenience and entertainment than ever before.

We will celebrate 40 Years Tough throughout 2017 with a series of stories showcasing those who pioneered America’s best-selling trucks and the Ford truck enthusiasts who continue to carry on the tradition today. In fact, we’ve already started, with these stories highlighting Ford F-Series customers:
