The goals for the powershift double dry clutch transaxle (dct) were noble, better mileage and a high tech image for Ford, but the results have been far from that. The dct in the Fiesta and Focus are gaining a bad reputation for erratic and bizarre operation, and many dcts appear to go through clutches and seals far faster than they should (in my case after 17K miles). Ford should replace the dct with a conventional torque converter transaxle. Improved mileage could be obtained by using a locking torque converter like the Mazda 3, or by going to an 8-speed.
Get rid of the powershift transaxle
