A few years a go my friend decided to take his Chevy 1500 4×2 down a goat trail in the mountains around San Luis Obispo. Needless to say, he got stuck and had to hike out. The next day he came to me and my 3.0 V6 4×4 Ranger for help. We 4×4′d in over areas that took him hours to get through and were able to pull the truck out of the ditch. Then the real adventure came as darkness fell, the rain came, and we got lost for 6 hours on the side of a mountain. We ended up caravaning down the mountain in darkness with the Ranger, Chevy 1500, and a Chevy 2500 diesel 4×4. After an encounter with a mud pit and hill side, my truck was the only one to make it out on it’s own. The 1500 was stuck for 2 weeks, and I had to tow out the 2500…Go FORD!
