On January 25th on my way to work while slowly going down I-43 in Sheboygan, Wi I ran into some black ice. Shortly there after I find myself sideways and heading towards the ditch. Mind you this is at 5:50 in the morning and about -2 outside. About this time I’m praying that I don’t hit the ditch too hard, followed shortly there after by me clinching the steering wheel and going oh crap I’m going over. About 2 seconds later I find myself in the ditch on my wheels facing the opposite way from which I started. A tow truck driver happened to wittness the whole thing and stopped to see if I was ok. After talking to him he told me how to reset the inertia switch and low and behold the truck started right up. So to try and save myself some money I put it in drive, switched to 4H and tried to get out of the ditch. Believe it or not she drove right out. Mind you I was about 30 ft into the ditch with the rear tires sitting on the fence that runs along the highway. After talking with the officers and them being nice enough to not give me a ticket they asked how I was going to get it home. My response was, “as long as you let me I’d like to drive it.” That is after i change the flat tire. Apparently I not only drove out of the ditch after rolling the truck but I also drove out with only 3 tires. So after changing the flat they let me drive it home. So at 5:50 I hit black ice, rolled my truck drove out of a ditch with 3 tires and made it home to hug the wife and kids by 7. I love my F-150’s. This is the second one that Ive totalled and friends say I should pick a different truck. I say “I keep walking away from the accidents I get into, I’ll keep owning a F-150 till I die.”
Thank you Ford for making such a strong truck that has saved my life twice now.
