High Mileage With The 4.6 Liter Triton

Just wanted to tell you that my 1998 F150 just turned 305,000 mikes, and you still can’t hear it idling.
I change the oil and filter myself, and never miss an oil change. I think the 4.6 is a great engine.
I also have a 1998 Windstar with 220,000 miles on it. That’s 525,000 miles on the 2 vehicles.
Pretty good, right?!

jason the 4.6 is a excellent engine in my opinion. i have never seen one faiL with low mileage unless it was beat to death. i have seen the 4.6's with as high as 500k being torn down with zero cylinder wear and needing very minimal work. Me myself i got over 200k out of my mustang with the 4.6 before it started burning oil. i thought for sure it was rings but after tearing the engine down theres still crosshatches in the cylinder walls and the pistons and rings mic'ed out fine. had a few valve seals leaking. but at that mileage you would expect cylinder wear, camshaft wear, bearing, or crank wear. Not on these motors, its not a powerhouse by anymeans but for the reliabilty thats all that matters to me. great job ford keep it up
