In 2003 I stepped on a land mine in Afghanistan, as a result I lost my left leg below the knee and fractured my right leg in several places. I was in a hospital for about 7 months after the accident and unable to really do anything with out the constant aid of my wife. Two months after being released from the hospital I was sitting on my couch watching TV when my wife knocked at the door. I wheeled myself to the door and opened it to be greeted by a bright red extended cab f150 4×4. I was immediately in love with it. She explained that she thought that it would be easier for me to use that vehicle than our current one (a Volvo s60 standard). A great car but was unable to drive or for that matter put the wheelchair in the car without help. She was currently test driving it and wondered if I would like it. I climbed down the stairs and demanded to be driven in the truck. We drove to the bank where it was being sold and bought it the same day. We adapted hand pedals to the vehicle and from then on drove it everywhere. Eventually I recovered and was able to drive other cars but that one still holds a special place in my heart. Currently I own a great little 2008 Fussion Sel that just joined our family last year. Oddly enough it joined our family after a car ran me off the highway in to a guardrail at 65+ mph. The handled well and withstood the damage without harming me. I walked away from a pretty bad wreck with minor bruises and some airbag burns. The car in question was a ford focus 2008.
