In August of 2009 my son and I went to see ZZ Top & Tom Petty in concert,as we pulled into the parking area there were many tailgating party’s going on,people and vehicles for miles it seemed,I lucked out and found a space close to some trees where my Ford Explorer would not get dinged or hit by a car door or some crazed and intoxicated concert goer,so I pulled up slowly and parked comfortably under a large oak tree that looked very old but looked sturdy,my son and I went into the concert and enjoyed the concert, untill a storm came from out of nowhere the wind was whipping, mind you this was an out door venue, then the rain started to come down hard and cold,we were trying to take cover as the plastic cups and peoples blankets and things flying past us like crazy! We finally made it to the stairs to the parking lot, when it started to hail,And I do mean hail, golf ball size ,we began running for my Ford Explorer, this took along time as there were hundreds of cars in this parking lot.As I had my vehicle in sight the hail subsided, the winds died down and a calm came over the city of Charlotte NC.As i dug for my keys to unlock my doors,I saw rows & rows of cars, their owners with flashlights making asessments of the damages to their vehicles. When I finally reached my Ford Explorer,Im proud to say not a scratch or dent from the hail storm, thanks to that Oak tree I found to park under!
