My wife and I have owned a 1997 Expedition for about 11 years now… This Expedition has been remarkable… My wife literally will not allow me to trade it in for a new(er) one. She “wants” to see it say 300,000 on the odometer.
It currently has 260,000 miles on it and it’s my wife’s daily driver. Round trip she puts right at 120-130 miles a day on it.
Now I realize that 260,000 isn’t a huge feat in itself as I’ve seen other Expeditions over 300,000 miles but the reason I feel ours is different is because it is 100% all original.
I’ve spoken with other owners of high mileage Expeditions and I keep hearing the same thing over and over… Transmission was replaced/Rebuilt at 140,000…
Head Gaskets were replaced at 150,000 yada yada yada…
We’ve experienced NONE of these problems!
Neither the engine nor the transmission has ever been rebuilt or touched for that matter.
260,000 miles on a OE transmission is remarkable to me when you consider the fact that none of those miles were babied miles. We use our Expedition and we use it hard. My wife does all the JROTC events so she is constantly carrying up to 9 teens and all the JROTC gear… The Expedition spends allot of time packed with people and school equipment… Some loads are very heavy so this SUV has been worked it’s entire life.
It also used to pull our 28′ travel trailer all the time but since the introduction of the EcoBoost F150, we let the F-150 pull the Travel trailer now.
Bottom line here is We’ve worked our Expedition for years and it has proven to be extremely reliable, dependable, and most importantly trouble-free.
We credit this long term relationship with our Expedition to Ford’s commitment to building quality vehicles and my obsessive maintenance regiment which includes Amsoil products throughout the SUV…
Thanks Ford for many happy years with our Expedition and we hope for many more both with the Expedition and our new 2011 F-150!
