I fully trust Ford with its new hybrid offerings and will be considering a new one. I own two 2005 Escape Hybrids, one AWD with 89,000 miles and an FWD with 119,000 miles. They have been almost trouble-free, really! One just had a hybrid electronics cooling pump go ($600) and one had an AC component go last year ($800). Otherwise, just very good basic preventive maintenance on my part. They do NOT require special care. Absolutely no evidence of the battery packs having any trouble, and they’re old technology by today’s standards. The brake pads and tires lasted over 75,000 miles!
I replaced them even though they still had about 25% wear left. I put standard tires on them, versus the harder rubber high roll resistance OEM type ones for a much nicer ride.
