I write this today in a way to say thank you to FORD for the hard work and dedication that all of their employees take in their job to put a top quality product on the market. I was the owner of a 2004 Ford Excursion Limited. It had just over 111,000 miles on it and still looked and ran like it was new. We loved this vehicle. On Saturday March 3, 2012, my family and I were on our way home from a vacation to Disneyland. I have been married for 14 years and we have 5 children ages 13, 9, 8, 4 and 2. We pretty much fill up the entire vehicle with our luggage. We were driving northbound on I-15 in between Barstow and Baker, California when we were involved in a really bad accident. There was a Charter Tour Bus broke down on the side of the road at a point where the road curves. I was looking to my left to switch lanes and we started to drift to the right over the white line and directly towards the back of the bus. My wife suddenly woke up and alerted me to the situation. I quickly swerved back to the left barely missing the back of the bus, but unfortunately our momentum still caused a collision. The first thing to make contact was my passenger side mirror which immediately broke the passenger window and broke off coming all the way through the vehicle. The rear passenger door then made contact with the bus and we had contact with the bus the rest of the way back on the vehicle. All 3 passenger side windows and the back window shattered, the rear passenger door can not be opened and the back quarter panel is pushed in a good 6 inches. The rear liftgate cannot be opened at all. The accident smashed the back end of the vehicle up pretty bad. The Highway Patrol Officer that came to the scene said it should have been a fatality accident. Every member of my family left that accident scene with no injuries other than minor glass cuts and abrasions. We then got back in the Excursion and drove it the next 1,250 miles back home. We live in Spokane Valley, WA. The vehicle doesn’t shake, rattle or pull at all. It actually got better gas mileage after the accident. Unfortunately, the insurance company totaled the vehicle out. We are disappointed about this as we love this vehicle and will never be able to afford another one again. We are so disappointed that the Excursion is no longer being made. I just wanted to personally write to you and thank you from the bottom of my heart for building a vehicle that saved my families lives. I truly believe that any other vehicle would have had different results. Thank you, thank you for putting quality vehicles on the road. We hit a bus at over 75 miles per hour and still drove home. Certainly “Built Ford Tough”!! Thank you.
