In July 1967 my brother and I were enjoying a sunny day riding our bikes at our cottage. I was 8 yrs old. We used to watch the cars go by and that day we heard the car coming before we could actually see the Light Blue 1967 Shelby GT500 rumbling up the road.
We used to hag out at the entrace to the park because there was usually a line up of activity waiting to get in through the gates.
We were amazed by the loud rumble of the exhaust. As the car engaged the clutch and roared to a cruising speed in second gear we proceeded to chase the car as fast as we could. Neadless to say we lost the car falling behind watching in the distance the sequencial tailights turning left. So cool. We finally caught up to the car at the swimming area.
I remember the awesome lines of the fastback with white stripes. Black interior, chrome and the rear tailights across the back end of the car, two huge center headlights and hood scoop. GT500, cool.
That was it. From that day onward all I could think of was Mustang!
I was 18 when my friend brought home his first 1970 Mustang with 351C 4V. What a fast car. We had many fun times cruising in that car in highschool.
My first Mustang was spotted on the front lawn of a house in Windsor, ON. I stopped and was in awe as I looked at a 1970 Grabber Green Boss429 fastback. My Dad helped me out and I sold all my net worth to buy this first car. What a first Mustang experience!!. I did not at the time realize how rare this car actually was. Sold to start a family.
I later found sport in the same 1970 Mustang 351C, 1995 Mustang GT last of the 5.0L, currently owning a 1969 Mustang Grande 351W , 1970 Boss 302 and finally in 2007 my dreams were realized with the purchase of a brand new 2007 Shelby GT500 Vista Blue with white stripes.
Ford Mustang’s have been a huge part of my life.
Perhaps a brand new 2013 GT500 may be in my sights. Will Ford Motor Company paint special paint order in Grabber Green 1970 “Z” code??
Doug.
Keep chasing your dreams..
