Today, April 17th, 2013, not only marks the 49th birthday of the Mustang, but it also marks a huge personal milestone for my family – my father’s FIRST Mustang. Not only is it his first Mustang, but also his first brand new Ford since 1963!
For as long as I can remember, most of our family has been die-hard fans of the other “Big 3″ manufacturers. I have always stood alone in my love of Ford and especially Mustangs. Having owned over 25 Mustangs since the age of 18, my parents are never surprised when I show up in their driveway with a different Pony. I’ve been fortunate enough to turn my car hobby into a career running the SVT Owners Association, a national Ford enthusiast club, and it was through that connection that I helped coordinate the creation of the limited edition 2014 50th Anniversary TdF Mustang program for Holman & Moody – a name very familiar to fans of Ford Racing, and a car that would celebrate the Mustang’s first international race win at the 1964 Tour de France Automobile Rally.
As soon as I told my father that this would be the first ever street car produced by Holman & Moody, he insisted that he would have to buy one. So here we are today, on the 49th birthday of the Mustang, picking up his very first one from the dealership and next week this Race Red GT Premium will receive the full Holman & Moody treatment and be transformed into a 50th Anniversary TdF Mustang at their race shop in Charlotte, N.C.
I’m not sure who is happier, him or me?
