Like any good farm boy growing up in Illinois, I couldn’t wait to get my driver’s license. I’d been driving for five or six years already (like most farm boys), but now it would be legal. I took my test in my Dad’s 1957 green and white Fairlane 500 (with a 292 Thunderbird Special V8, a guy remembers important details like that). Dad was shocked when I didn’t ask to drive home; I just sat in the front seat and stared at that magic card. It just so happens that the date was April 17, 1964. As any good Ford enthusiast knows that is the date the Mustang was introduced to the public at the New York World’s Fair. My kids say I was destined to be a Mustang owner. It took me 28 years, but I finally got my first Mustang, a 1992 5.0 GT. Since then I’ve owned a 1997 Cobra and now have a 2006 GT. The 5.0 is back and I’m getting the itch again.
May a Mustang always grace my garage!
