My friend and I were at a local Ford dealership in Tulsa having maintenance done on my 2006 Ford Five Hundred. He had recently been in an accident in his 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier, and it was totaled from the collision. While we were at the dealership, I – being the enthusiast that I am – was excitedly showing him the new 2010 Taurus and the new Fusion. He was driving a 2010 Focus as his rental vehicle while waiting for his insurance company to send him a check. We heard a horrible crash and looked out to the street, and saw a 2009 Ford Focus fly across the 4-lane road and slam into a utility pole at about 60 MPH. The impact was horrifying, and we both ran to the crash site to assist. The Focus had been struck in the rear by another car and pushed off the road when it hit the pole. The front and rear of the Focus was virtually unrecognizable. However, the passenger compartment didn’t even look damaged! I opened the driver door and assisted the driver out – to my amazement, he grabbed my hand, unlatched his seat belt and stepped out – with no injury whatsoever! He was extremely shaken, of course, but was totally fine. My friend and I walked him into the dealership to call the police and EMS, and he didn’t even have to go to the hospital. After seeing this crash, and seeing how structurally safe the Focus was, my friend left the dealership as the proud new owner of a 2010 Ford Fusion. He had never driven a Ford – but now he’s a total believer. We’ve told this many times to other friends, and I’m proud to be a Ford owner!!
