My First Ford

The year was 1974, I was sixteen years old and had made a deal with my Dad to use all the money I made working for him to purchase a car. At the end of the summer I had made a womping $600.00. We found a used 66 Ford Fairlane at a chev car lot. It was a four door, red in color and black interior. It was the finest looking car I had ever seen! My Dad told me to let him do the talking. The price tag on the ford was $595.00. I didn’t see the problem, I had $600.00! My Dad walked around the car, opened all the doors, trunk, and looked under the hood. He then drove it. After two hours!!! of looking at the car and the salesman really getting uncomfortable, My Dad finally opened his mouth and said “If I had a pen I would write you a check for $200.00 dollars! The salesman literally ripped his shirt taking the pen out of his pocket! NOW, not only did I have a car but I also had $400.00 extra dollars!! However my excitement was quickly put to rest. When we left the car lot we had to stop my Al’s auto supply and by a new head casket and associated parts to fix the car. My Dad instructed me how to change the head casket and replace some other caskets as well! This car had a 200 six cylinder engine, it was real easy to work on and in a few days I had a very reliable, good looking car! I was sold on Fords! I have never owned any other brand of vehicle. Knowing what I know now I would not have ever sold my Fairlane to my sister, she eventually wrecked it!!

First off I don't understand the thought process on building a stock turbo car and only making it in a family style option???? Ford designers should think about making a Ford Focus Sport again in a two door hatchback with a turbo, sport style suspension, sport style braking (brembro), manual six speed. And most important to me is they should have an option FROM THE FACTORY about the back seats, Meaning either having them or having the option of removing them and making the cargo space bigger but still having the room to move the front seats back. If your like me the whole point of having a two door is I don't want people in my back seat but want the cargo space.
