So here I was pregnant with my 2nd kiddo (owned a 1987 Nissan Sentra hatch) and taking care of my dying mother (cancer in 1997). When my mother died her will said I was to get her 1995 Ford Taurus. I wasn’t thrilled. Beings that the 2nd carseat in the little Nissan hatchback made for a real tight squeeze for a family of 4, I took the Taurus. Planned on selling it actually to get something I wanted.
I had the car 3 months and fell in love with it. Nice riding for the family, plenty of room, great to take on road trips, good gas milage and all out a comfortable car. I had just returned from Rapid City SD and parked the car in my driveway in the wee hours of the morning. I got a call about 7am from the police department asking where my car was. I told them it was in my driveway. I looked out my window and it wasn’t in my driveway. Come to find out my car was stolen and totaled in Gov. Bill Janklows lawn at the capital in Pierre SD.
The drunk kids were doing about 75 mph didnt make the curve in the road , blew the tires, and came to a stop when they hit a huge tree head on, deploying air bags, snapped the tree, and totaled the car. The car was so well made the kids got out and ran (very minor injuries). I figured if a car took a hit that hard, snapped my cb mount that a cb was mounted to, broke carseat bases, deployed airbags, and hit a tree at 60 mph, and get out and run from the police.. if I was hit in town, headon.. I would walk away from that accident and had a very good chance of living through an accident if it was out on the Interstate or highway. The inside of the car was still fully intact except where the airbags went off. Looking at the inside of the car, I was impressed. I knew for safety reasons for my family, another Taurus would be purchased.
I purchased another Taurus. Ran the wheels off of it. Loved it. I never had any troubles with it, it was always dependable, and maintenance was next to nothing. I had the chance in 2004 to buy a 1999 Ford Escort zx2 Sport model. I LOVED this car.
Talk about stylish, comfortable, gas saving, run the wheels off, little car. The only problem was, was the kids now 15 and 18 were to big for the Escort. One being 6′4 and one being 6′.. this just wasn’t working anymore. So in December on 2011 I was rear ended and Escort totalled on Interstate 29 in Sioux Falls. I was crushed. Bummed. Angry.
It just so happens as luck would have it. I was able to get a 2006 Ford Taurus with the settlement money. I have to say I LOVE this one too. It was a fluke how I ended up with this Taurus. Called the salemen at a car lot and said I have this amount of money to spend, I need a car in this price range.. and waiting at the door was this 2006 Taurus. Sign?.. could be. I got such a good deal I would of been stupid not to take it. I have had the car since December and love it.
I have to say since my mom willed me her Ford Taurus I have been hooked since. I have drooled and love the SHO’s over the years but never bought one. They were hard to find. Now, I have been looking for a cute, showy, classy, sexy looking Mustang. I think thats the direction I want to go next.
Overall I have to say I am now a diehard converted Ford fan. Coming from Datsun/Nissan side. I have to say the vehicles are very well made, great quality, super value, and classy designs. I love my Taurus. And having that hottie Mike Rowe as a spokesperson helps to. Love the commercials. Thanks Ford for keeping my family and I safe, and making a product I love.
P.S., the rearending that Escort took at 45mph, took a strong hit, but me being belted in, that car barely looked damaged, and all I had was whiplash and concussion. That little thing came through like a trooper.
