JOHN Q What about freeing up front engine space for maintanance and more natural air for cooling.

David G 1) You don't say what model your referring to! 2) Depending on the model, I'd agree. No necessarily for more airflow, but if we're talking about a hi-performance car (Focus ST, Mustang) it can help with weight distribution (which is why it's usually done). A battery is HEAVY. Moving close to 50 pounds to the trunk can honestly make a difference in handling. 3) Once again, depends on the model. Can the battery be put in an area where it won't be a "bother". It wouldn't work well to have the battery in the center, behind the rear seats if the seats fold down! Somewhat flush to the right side, or "hidden" a right corner may work, which would compensate for some of the driver's weight on the left. Shelby did it on the early GT350s!
