New engine design
I have an idea for a different engine design for electric drive vehicles; a vertically oriented radial 120 degree. The alternator would be on top with a dry sump on the bottom. Each stack would contain three cylinders, additional banks would be added at a 60 degree offset to the first. This engine would be small displacement, and would operate at set RPM, the RPM would be in the very high range. No mechanical connection would exist to the drive train, lithium-polymer batteries may be used in conjunction with high energy capacitors to provide electricity to the traction motors and necessary accessories. The engine might run on CNG and compressed oxygen or air, feed through electrically operated iris valves. Exhaust valves may be mechanically or electrically operated. Set RPM points should eliminate speed variation problems.
