I love my explorer but I have issues with the roof. During Winter the Grooves on the roof collect snow and Ice. The grooves hold the ice in place and make it hard to get it off. The grooves plus the luggage rack make nice area for the ice to build up and stay put. While driving the blocks of ice Slide forward and back crashing into the luggage rack with every push of the break or accelerator. Also, on the roof of my Explorer there are large areas where the paint is chipping off. I believe the paint chipping is directly related to the ice expanding, contracting, and sliding up and down the grooves. A flat roof would make it easier to get the ice off as well as lessen the impact of the ice sliding back and fourth.
