Opportunistic Air Conditioning would do automatically what I often did as a hypermiler in my manual-transmission car; when coming to a stop, keep car in-gear, downshift, and transfer more kinetic energy into AC compressor. An "ECO" mode for AC could be created that would have a more aggressive setpoint for kicking the compressor in when the vehicle is decelerating, coupled to the transmission controller for increasing RPM & energy transfer to the compressor. Getting it well-chilled when coming to a stop could allow an auto start/stop system to shut the engine off for a bit and still allow a low fan setting.
