The US market is sorely in need of a small turbo diesel AWD / 4WD SUV such as the Escape. The Kuga is available in a diesel in the EU but not in the N. American market.
VW will likely launch a Tiguan TDI AWD soon in the US market (currently available in the EU). The first to market a small turbo diesel SUV will be the market leader.

S Wells Currently I have 2 VW TDI Jettas. The small diesel power-plants offer fantastic fuel economy and tons of torque. But, VW is the only one offering the small diesel engins in the US. Common Ford, you have the diesels in the EU--why not offer them here? Bring us the diesel Escape or Transit Connect Wagon! 2 months(s) ago via Ford Social
Brandon W not sure why we dont have any diesel cars or light trucks. 7 months(s) ago via Ford Social
Clayton P I totally agree!!!! I actually just bought a VW Jetta TDI about a month ago and I have never gotten below 40 MPG even when I largely drive in the city. It was for the MPG that I bought it instead of a Focus, and it is a manual trans. I would love to buy a 4WD/AWD Small or Mid sized SUV that has a TDI engine, seeing as I live in Utah and winters can be horrible when you have family that wants you to visit and lives four hours away. 8 months(s) ago via Ford Social
Edgar B I know little to nothing of automotive design or efficiency. However, my comment is: "diesel/electric" as a vehicle power source, sounds like a good idea.
I've heard diesel engines are better designed now and produce less pollution. Emission controls too, are better.
Bio-diesel fuels could be home grown and reduce the need for imported fuels.
Diesel engines tend to be simplier and maybe slightly more reliable.
The power output of a diesel engine: compared to the engine's displacement, is better than that of gasoline engines. 11 months(s) ago via Ford Social
Donald B The Kuga is exactly what I'm seeking. 47 mpg diesel! I'd buy one today. 1 year(s) ago via Ford Social
Bruce H Part of the problem is the cetane level in U.S. diesel fuel runs on the low side, so you sacrifice a lot of the European performance. 1 year(s) ago via Ford Social
Jeff Barstow Jeff Barstow Diesel engines have a 20% thermodynamic efficiency advantage over gas burners of equivalent HP / displacement. Why can't we in the US get the really efficient turbo diesels? We need to kick the EPA in the butt and get more responsible regulations similar to the EU. If the Escape (Kuga) were available in a turbo diesel I would purchase one today. 1 year(s) ago via Ford Social
Simon Lepik diesel 4x4 with a manual transmission please. Some people still actually drive on snow covered dirt roads. 1 year(s) ago via Ford Social
Nathan Huck Do I have to go to a Mazda cx5 now to get an affordable small diesel suv? 1 year(s) ago via Ford Social
Donald Huggins Why won't Ford listen to its US customers? We need the diesel here in the states. The mpg's this suv would get and Americans love of the suv would make it a clear winner over Toyota's Prius. I would buy it in a heartbeat. 1 year(s) ago via Ford Social
David Mellor This is a no brainer. We need a diesel option in USA Ford vehicles. Why does no one listen at Ford or respond to the market trends? The PHEV C-Max is the first time I have seen Ford take action but it will come 9 months after the PHEV Prius. Mr. Mulally are you listening? 1 year(s) ago via Ford Social
dOUG We need turbo diesel in the U.S. for the increased towing capacity and good gas mileage. Period! 2 year(s) ago via Ford Social
PJ Hill I agree with all of these comments. And if you add a pet-friendly version, ala the Honda Element, I would also be in line to buy! 2 year(s) ago via Ford Social
Nathan Huck Even the guys on BBC's Top Gear state that the diesel is the best engine option for this vehicle. I'd place my order today if it were offered here. We need the reliability, fuel economy, and performance of the Ford small diesel engines here in the U.S! Why is Ford sending the best technology overseas and abandoning the U.S. To the likes of VW? 2 year(s) ago via Ford Social
Brian Langston The gasoline Kuga in Europe gets 27.4 mpg and has co2 emissions of 244 g/km and the diesel gets 47.9 mpg and has 136 g/km on emissions. Sounds like diesel is almost twice as efficient and cleaner! I think the government and the EPA need to rethink all the emissions regulations if that is what is restricting U.S. cars from getting the same mpg ratings as other countries. 2 year(s) ago via Ford Social
Rocco Tinnirello Ford will not bring diesel cars to the USA because they are in bed with the oil companies. Ford makes great cars in europe , its a no brainer! 2 year(s) ago via Ford Social
John Bland I agree I think a Diesel for the smaller SUV, CUV, and small cars in the US could use a small turbo diesel, but the only problem I see is that Diesel is NOW more expensive than gas. I am sure hoping if we get to $5 a gallon gas that Ford seriously thinks of bringing over the new 60 MPG B-Max just being released at the Geneva Autoshow for European consumption only. But I dunno w/ $5 dollar gas this summer expected. Maybe the general public could go for even higher mileage cars like the B-Max. Unless of course Ford could transplant either the 1.0 liter turbo into the Fiesta and Focus. 40 MPG is good 60MPG even better :) 2 year(s) ago via Ford Social
