Let’s start off with some trivia: Do you know what the Ford King Ranch® models are named after? That would the King Ranch in southern Texas, which is one of the oldest working ranches in the U.S. and one of the largest in the entire world. Just how old is it? Well, Captain Richard King established it in 1853! The historic 825,000-acre ranch is known today for its cattle, retail, publishing and eco-tourism operations.
The introduction of the 2015 Ford F-150, F-Series Super Duty® and Expedition King Ranch® models celebrates an association with the iconic Texas ranch that spans 15 years. To mark the 15th anniversary, a unique collection of photos by Texas State Photographer Wyman Meinzer are making their debut at a special exhibit during the 2014 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, along with a trio of King Ranch vehicles. The show will take place March 4-23, 2014.
“King Ranch is a legacy. It’s one of the best in Texas, if not America,” Wyman said. “These Ford vehicles wear the King Ranch ‘Running W’ brand because they are proven to be legitimate and authentic, in the heritage of both Ford and the King Ranch.” You can watch a behind-the-scenes video that captures a bit of Wyman during the photo shoot with the Ford vehicles at the King Ranch.
There’s still a mystery surrounding the Running W symbol, but legend has it that its design represents the diamondback rattlesnakes that live on the property. The symbol is used on the ranch’s prize-winning cattle as well as leather goods made in the King Ranch Saddle Shop.
Here are some details about the 2015 Expedition King Ranch®, which is being shown for the first time at this event. There’s the Mesa Brown leather-trimmed interior, which has undergone minimal processing to ensure the natural grain and luxurious feel to capture the spirit of the ranch. The Running W and Kingsville color-contrast stitching and piping are key elements of the unique seats. The exterior also features unique trim, color combinations and wheels, all inspired by the King Ranch landscape.
The story of King Ranch is really the story of a journey – one entailing innovation, a rich history, and the pursuit of excellence, characteristics that built Ford as well. You could call that journey the ultimate expedition.
