ROXIMITY Uncovers Local Deals via SYNC
AUG
09

Back in the day, you needed to be on the lookout for giant inflatable animals and people waving brightly colored signs to find a great deal while on the road. ROXIMITY and Ford SYNC® AppLink™ may change that.

This free iOS app offers location-aware alerts for sales and discounts based on the specific interests of the user. So instead of only highlighting one deal per city, it sends music aficionados info on local concerts while informing foodies of the buy-one-get-one offer at the local bistro.

Drivers of SYNC AppLink equipped Ford vehicles are able to take this experience to a whole new level.1 When your compatible phone is connected to SYNC and AppLink is activated, drivers can simply use voice commands to ask ROXIMITY for special deals nearby as they drive. SYNC can even be told to contact the retailer by phone to take advantage of an offer.2

ROXIMITY was created in 2011 during a 24-hour programming event known as the TechCrunch Disrupt Hackathon. After being declared the winner of the SYNC App Developer Challenge at the event, ROXIMITY was given access to the Ford SYNC AppLink application programming interface. This allowed the team to integrate its new idea with the in-vehicle connectivity system. As a result, the app is the first to launch with AppLink compatibility from day one.

Are you brainstorming the next great SYNC app? Share it with us at Your Ideas.

1) Driving while distracted can result in loss of vehicle control. Only use SYNC/MyFord Touch/other devices, even with voice commands, when it is safe to do so. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. Not all features are compatible with all phones. SYNC is available on select Ford and Lincoln vehicles.

2) SYNC AppLink is available on select models and compatible with select smartphone platform. Commands may vary by phone and AppLink software.

Don B Make sure you verify that the car you are buying has App Link, just because you are buying the best model doesn't mean you are getting the best Sync system.

Kent Riedel Looks like ford has decided to destroy its loyal fan base. as if killing the Ranger and turning the Explorer into a family sedan wasn't enough, ford is now looking to turn the fabled Mustang into an economy car, even offering a four-door version. As a die hard Ford fan my whole life this hurts pretty bad, but my current Mustang is the last Ford I will ever own, I can't believe Ford has made no attempt to bring a performance car into the world that is affordable for an average American to purchase. What a shame, It's been difficult watching this unfold, but I guess Ford will not miss me as a customer, seeing as how they would rather make bright colored Fiestas than satisfy their loyal fan base of the last 100 plus years, it is very hard to swallow. Ouch!!!

Henri L Almost all people have some smartphone on pocket, but for cars that you build with systems like this, keep the devices in some standard size so them can be updated if needed someday.

It's a great idea to have this kind of technology to be built in inside the car. Personally. I prefer to go into hotel/place, relax, open up my laptop and plan where I want to go than do it inside my car, but that's me. If I go somewhere: I will go get a park, and then I walk to the destination. In the city, I prefer walking & use my i-Phone to look for the discount than using SYNC in my car. So, I think that I will consider a lot if I want to have this SYNC inside my car I see this might work occasionally but I see Ford really works really well to enhance the driver's experience. Two thumbs up for your ideas!
