


It’s not uncommon to see new cars at Milan Dragway in Milan, Mich,. A brand-new Mustang doesn’t surprise anyone. But roll up to the tech-inspection booth with a 2010 Lincoln MKS and Ford Flex, and the eyebrows go up. You boys lost?
To deliver first-hand experience to a handful of automotive journalists, we recently brought a 2010 Lincoln MKS and Ford Flex – two of the first production models to be equipped with the EcoBoost engine – to the drag strip. The ¼-mile race track has long been known as the American icon of straight-line acceleration…what better place to demonstrate the power of this Ford powerplant?
The 2010 Lincoln MKS is the first Ford Motor Company vehicle available with the premium twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine. By 2013, more than 90 percent of Ford’s North American nameplates will be available with EcoBoost technology. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 in the all-wheel-drive 2010 Lincoln MKS produces 355 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 350 lb.-ft. of torque from 1,500 to 5,250 rpm*, and it can be run on regular fuel. The Lincoln MKS with EcoBoost is rated at 17 mpg city and 25 mpg highway**.
So, you’re probably wondering what happened at the drag strip. Journalists from several publications and web sites were able to pilot the Lincoln MKS down the track, including Car & Driver magazine’s Mike Austin who had the best acceleration time of the evening in the MKS – 13.9 seconds at 111 mph. In addition, the Ford Flex posted 14-second times.
