Ford is First Among Major Manufacturers to Report Sales Increase in 2009
AUG
03

The efforts Ford put in place a number of years ago to bring more fuel-efficient cars to market is paying off now. Customer demand for our fuel-efficient vehicles coupled with the U.S. government’s Car Allowance Rebate System, also known as Cash for Clunkers, enabled us to post the first sales increase of any major manufacturer in 2009.

“We had another strong month in progress before the Cash for Clunkers program started,” said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. ”Our products, our dealers and our advance preparation enabled us to leverage the program and drive traffic and sales to another level,” he added. “In addition, we achieved a sales increase even though we decreased incentive spending in an increasingly competitive environment.”

Here are the highlights from July 2009 sales for Ford Motor Company:

  • Ford, Lincoln and Mercury retail sales increased 9 percent versus a year ago; total sales (including fleet) were 158,838, up 2 percent versus a year ago
  • Ford is first among major manufacturers to report a sales increase in 2009; year-over-year total sales gain is the first for Ford since November 2007
  • Ford’s fuel-efficient vehicles pace July sales results – Ford Fusion up 66 percent, Mercury Milan up 60 percent, Ford Escape up 94 percent, Mercury Mariner up 71 percent, Ford Focus up 44 percent and Ford Ranger up 65 percent; Ford hybrid sales up 323 percent
  • Ford was first to market with Cash for Clunkers Web site; more than 1 million consumers were guided by www.LetFordRecycleYourRide.com
  • First 2010 model Ford Taurus and Transit Connect models were delivered to U.S. customers in July
  • Ford Fusion sales totaled 17,610, a July record and up 66 percent versus a year ago, and Mercury Milan sales were up 60 percent. The 2010 model Fusion and Milan and their hybrid versions are the most fuel-efficient midsize sedans in America
  • Ford Escape sales totaled 20,241, a July record and up 94 percent versus a year ago, and Mercury Mariner sales were up 71 percent. The 2009 model Escape Hybrid and Mariner Hybrid are the most fuel-efficient sport utility vehicles in America
  • Ford Focus sales totaled 21,830, up 44 percent versus a year ago. The Focus is among the most fuel-efficient compact cars in America with an EPA highway rating of 35 mpg
  • Ford Ranger sales totaled 7,695, up 65 percent versus a year ago. The Ranger is the most fuel-efficient compact pickup in America
  • Ford Flex sales totaled 3,631, up 65 percent versus a year ago. The Flex is among the most fuel-efficient midsize crossover vehicles in America
  • Ford’s hybrid vehicles (Fusion, Milan, Escape and Mariner) posted combined sales of 5,353, a record for any month and up 323 percent versus a year ago

“We have the freshest line of new products in the industry,” said Czubay. ”We’re really encouraged by the growing number of consumers who are considering Ford for their next vehicle.”

Internal and external studies show a positive trend in the percentage of consumers with favorable opinions about Ford, and growing numbers of consumers who are willing to consider purchasing a Ford vehicle, thanks to improved fuel economy, smart technology and higher residual values.

Susan Butcher I was surprised to see a comment from someone connected with the Corsair. I 'm in Australia and I own a 1963 Corsair GT. Do you have any photos of the Corsair GT trial at Monza?

Claude C. Ice I got my first new Ford in 1950, and have liked every one since. My complaint and the reason for not buying any more Fords is because of your poliicy to support the gay agenda & groups. Buying Green or the MPG mean Nothing compared to what a company stands for or represents. I was proud that you held your ground against Obama and not taking his bailout money. Keep making units that people want and do not put too many eggs in that high MPG basket. I have worked with engines that have NO exhaust, others that run on HHO, doubling their current milage, so at 75, Obama can't fool me whth his lies about global warming or going Green.

Pamela Zezula Thank you so much for your sponsorship of the "free" classes for displaced workers through Walsh college. I am a recent displaced worker from General Motors and to show my gratitude for your concern to the community I recently purchased a MKX and I love it. Thank you once again.

Gigi I too would like to see Forf Motor and Ford Credit Corp, do well! I have always bought FORDS and Love my" FUSION, 2006," My husband.... drives a MUSTANG, 2005. The important thing about buying or trading NOW depends on us...yes, I know there are gimicks like "clunkers for trade or whatever",,,,Obama and his adminsr's. Czars and Cabinet,,including CONGRESS...would love to see this program work. Having said that....I again am asking you for 2 separate statements on our re-write: Mustang,05 loaded OR Fusion,06, whish is loaded also. However...We need to get rid of one depending on our monthly paychecks. Can you help us NOW?

Darcy I love to see Ford coming out of this down turn unlike GM and Chrysler who have destroyed customer opinion of their companys with poor management. I have bought 3 new Fords in 3 years with the most recent one 2 weeks ago. If I could I would buy more new Fords just because they are the only respectable car company left not to mention the best for quality and fuel economy, and that includes concideration for Toyota who has managed to brainwash americans into thinking they are american too and Volkswagon who cant build a car that can be fixed by anyone other than their own dealers(volkswagon builds junk). Everyone should jump on the ford band wagon and make sure the only U.S. based manufacturer stays strong.

rich donahue i have owned so far three ford pick=up trucks two ford autos and am salivating to buy my next f-150. all the fords i owned were perfect looking back to 1967 when my first car was a 1967 ford LTD, a great car that went through two more owners in my family. the trucks also went through the usual hand me downs. in fact an f-250 lives on as a snow plow truck ,confined to a parking lot due to its age, the engine just won't quit. forward thinking ford motors is my auto company. now with the obvious sucess you have had i think ford motors is about to soar. everybody likes to identify with a winner. i am happy for the best car company in our history. now there is a great story to be told, just like kodak and coke, ford is part of the memories of our life.

Michael Great to see Ford doing so well. I used to work for Ford UK back in the early 1960's and with my brother captured 6 world records with the UK Ford Anglia 105e at Montlhery Autodrome outside Paris (France) and then another 9 world records with the UK Ford Corsair GT at Monza in Italy. Strong cars and excelent value for money. keep at it!!!

I would like to see all Ford Trucks have the option or standard of having the ability to roll down the full Rear Window completely. I would prefer this over the little box that slides open. Let's see this option come true.
