Ford Gains Market Share in June

JUL
01

The only U.S. auto maker that hasn’t taken a bailout loan continues to gain market share. Customer demand for new products helped Ford Motor Company increase market share in June.

“We’re making steady progress and are firmly focused on our Plan to build a sustainable and exciting Ford,” said Jim Farley, Ford group vice president, Marketing and Communications.  “We remain grounded, however, given challenging industry and economic conditions.”

Sales of the Ford Fusion were 18,561, a June sales record and up 26 percent versus a year ago.  Ford Flex sales were 4,784, a record for any month since it hit dealerships in June 2008.  Sales of the company’s hybrid vehicles totaled 3,649, a June sales record and up 91 percent versus a year ago.

“Customers are showing us just how much they value the quality, fuel efficiency, safety and smart technology incorporated in our new product lineup,” Farley added.  “This is an exciting time for Ford, which has more new vehicles in the market this year than any other automaker.”

We’re also helping dealers and customers get ready for the Cash for Clunkers program. We’ve launched the Let Ford Recycle Your Ride web site to help customers determine which vehicles qualify. You can read more about at it by clicking here.

Dano in Ky Rich, I believe that you are a crock! The change is happening, and it's not Japaneese. It's sorry that you are so disappointed, but I believe that it's all self deserved.

Tim Gates My wife and I own a 2005 Ford Freestyle SEL. In short this is the BEST car we have ever owned. This is coming from a 30 year old guy who has owned about 9 cars since I began drving. Ranging from Chrysler to Honda to Suzuki! Our ford has been reliable for over 75,000 miles. It it still comfortable, quiet and fun to drive. Good Job Ford! Thank You for keeping the true American Dream alive in the corporate arena. we will be back for another vehicle in a couple of years!

Ted Kissam I initally owned a Ford because my Father owned one and at 71 years old that has always been my car and truck. I have always been happy with my Fords. In two days I will leave South West Colorado to visit Glacier National Park and will pull a 23 ft fifth wheel trailor all the way. I am very proud of Fords approach to Obama. We need Ford to help fight a President who is trying to change our way of life.

Rob I have been a Ford owner my whole life, from the 1968 pickup I bought when I was 16 to the three new ones after that. My 09 F-150 is the best truck you guys have ever made. I am a contractor and a weekend warrior and whether I am trekking through the baja desert or hauling a load of materials down a San Diego freeway my trucks have not failed me yet. Ford vehicles are now the most reliable on the planet, keep up the good work. You prove what America is and should be, the best!

Brad S. I am happy for Ford Motor Company. I do not currently own a Ford vehicle, however, I have owned a few. A 1985 Escort, A 1982 Mustang (straight 6) and the best car I have EVER owned a 1984 Mercury Grand Marquis. I am very opinionated when it comes to my loyalties and lately it seemed that all of the "Big 3" (I call them the Big 2.5 , Chrylser is a joke) had lost sight of what Americans wanted and needed in an automobile. If Ford can commit to building quality innovative American cars IN America and make them affordable, there will be another one in my driveway soon!

Desmond Thank you for finally realizing that the big cars need to go - atleast aren't as important as fuel effecient cars with good quality, good prices (even though there's still room for improvement on that) and cars that are simply worth a persom buying. American's are starting to be able to be proud of Ford again.

Shirley I am pleased to see the progress Ford has made. For years we were Ford owners and went to Pontiac when Ford discontinued the Thunderbird in favor of the retro style. We loved our Ranger, old style T-Bird and our children drove Festivas in high school. We will be coming back to Ford for out next car purchase first. We believe in Buy America and we will be looking a new SUV and commuter car and from all I have seen Ford has what we are looking for at an excellent price.

Rich What a crock this blog is. I don't see a single negative comment. Lets see if mine shows up. I have owned several fords, all because a was a ford dealership mechanic in the 70s and Ford has done nothing but gone down hill, what a bunch of junk there selling now-a-days, both of my trucks are nothing but a bunch of problems, in the shop more then on the road, and forget about the dealerships in colo, they cant fix a thing, even under warranty I fix them myself, thats if I can get the parts. Made in the USA, HAH what a joke, you people sure don't know much about the real ford. I will be replaceing both of these trucks with a company that knows what it takes, like Japan, Man, I didn't think I would ever think I would say something like that, tis a sad day in america when we "real" americans see whats happening to this industry. Rich in Colo

Tal Martin I trust that Ford is making plans to compete with Government Motors (GM and Chrysler, who will not have to make a profit, being backed up by Obama and the Democrats). It is going to be tough. Let's make sure enough patriotic Americans buy Ford!!

Bryce I bought a Ford Escape Hybrid in 2006, we're very happy with it. It's been trouble free, and it really does get amazing milage. In two years, when it's paid off, I'll buy another Escape, or a Fusion. Of all my cars... Saturn, Chrysler, and Fords, the Ford Escape is the best. Please keep the quality up to the Escapes high standard. Thanks

David The only new Ford I bought was a 1996 Mustang Cobra. I still own and drive this awesome car every day. After 13+ years and 70K miles, I'm on my 3rd Ford Motorcraft battery and original brake pads. Each battery lasted 7 years which proves that Ford has excellent quality batteries and parts. I'm really glad to have chosen a Ford and would definitely buy another one.

John Rotella I currently own six Fords everything from a 2008 Ranger and a 2007 Mustang to a Pinto, a 1965 Galaxie, and two 1960s Thunderbirds. For decades, Ford has proven, and continues to prove that honesty, hard work, value, and innovation are the things that impress the American public the most. Ford's policy has always been one of continual improvement and I see no reason why that will ever change. Is it any wonder that if you ask a Ford employee for where they work, they proudly state: "I WORK FOR THE FORDS!".... I do not work for Ford, I just LOVEfords.

Bran I am going to help Ford gain some market share in July when I trade my Honda in for an Edge. It was nice to see an American company not take federal funds but solve issues on their own.

Robert C Failing Jr I am a retired Ford dealer. My family held a Ford franchise for fifty years. I recently went with my wife when she purchased a new 2009 Ford Fusion. Despite the fact that it is a four cylinder (and I find that hard to believe) this is the nicest riding new Ford I have ever had the pleasure of riding in. The handling is unbelievable. This is the quality that will continue to bring me back. Great job.

Dennis I'm very happy that Ford is gaining market share. I hope that continues. Having had 4 Merc Marquis in past, My wish for Ford to keep the Mercury in the lineup. I currently own a '97 Ford Thunderbird. It's the best car I ever had. My wish is for Ford to reinvent the 2 door midsize coupe in near future. I wish for another Thunderbird, if not, a retro '67 Mercury Cougar with the 3.5 engine. This would be a shot in the arm for Mercury lineup. There is a need for Mercury between Ford and Lincoln.

joe hats off to ford, hang in there. we the taxpayers really respect you guys. I run a small business with 3 work trucks. As we trade them in, we are now going 100% Ford for the quality and as way of saying thanks for working through the tough times and not taking the bailout. You guys have showed that you believe in your business and it's products, and now so do we.

Jennifer I have never been able to purchase a new vehicle, but had the chance to ride in the Ford Edge about two years ago. It was an 8 hr. drive and hands down THE most comfortable passenger ride I have ever had. (compared to mid-size to luxury vehicles, as both passenger and back seat driver, lol)

Juston My wife and I are recent college grads, with one child and one on the way. I can't help but tip my cap to Ford Mo. Co. for digging deep in these tough economic times, caused more by the lack of True Leaders in business and gov't. Our country need to support an strengthen the feeble knees and not reward those who are adding to our Tax Payer Burden. Keep improving Ford. Keep Innovating. You provide more jobs than just on the assembly line. And I believe most would agree if you could make the vehicles less expensive buy going totally automated than that's what you should do. Poor business practices, why employ people for labor when you don't have to. Unions or not, at the end of the day its about survival, profitability, gaining market share with the best use of technology to make you stronger, faster, more efficient, and more affordable. Henry Ford perfected the assembly line, which used the least amount of physical labor to make his vehicles the most affordable, and reliable. Keeping with sound business practices that Henry's success came from, Ford should do the same thing, by eliminating as much labor cost as possible through the use of Automation. Even to the point of helping your suppliers go automated as well. I will be buying a new Escape when its available with the Eco Boost I-4. And my wife is excited to get a New Fusion also when the Eco Boost is available. We have test driven both and love the quality of the vehicles, and with the new line of Eco Boost we are excited to purchase from the Original, American Car Company. Currently we own a 2007 King Ranch F-150 4x4. We live debt free, work hard, and save to live the live that we want, and we have chosen Ford as our car company!

casper My wife and I bought a new Escape in May. My criteria were primarily for a car made in America but with emphasis on Ford. I wanted to reward them for not taking the bailout money. I think there are millions of others that feel the same way and are putting their money where their mouth is. We're impressed with the new SUV. Nicest car we've ever owned. This makes the 4th Ford we've owned and I am now officially declaring myself a FORD MAN! I've been watching their climb back since early spring this and am very pleased to see the positive results. Please don't stop improving.

Gary Keaveny Ford Motor Company is the strongest and most reliable car company in history. I do plan on buying a new F-150 soon. My 1990 F-250 is a great truck and i have never had a problem with it, has over 220,000 miles on the it. Stills runs fine. These motors built by the finest people, which are americans, are basically bulletproof. The only car i will ever drive is a financially stable american car companies, but wait theres only one .FORD.

Lee McClune Mr Ford,, I would ask that You make every effort to include in Your immediate future a large amount of 100% Ethanol Engines, as we can easily make the Low Grade Ethanol(ie, 92%) quite Low Cost, and it can be 'Sustainable' and 'Carbon Neutral', making for Complete Independence from Foriegn Oil, and near ZERO GHGs,, please see > sorganol.com < Thanks, LFM

Frank Reade This is all wonderful news. Market share is on the rise. All models released are a smash hit. What’s the long term goal? Profitability alone? I think I know better than that. I think if there were four generators (each wheel, behind the breaking system) you wouldn’t need infrastructure changes, and would solve many problems, headaches included. Allen Mulally came from the aircraft arena; the automotive industry started about the same time as powered flight began, Dec. 17 1903. The advancements in flight has been numerous, now with Allen’s rich history in one field can be transferred to the automotive world. If there is no high goal set, or beacon, you end up going in circles, and your light will dim. So set ‘em high, and let’s move forward. For the advancement of all.

Please consider releasing the hactback and wagon versions of the beautiful new 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid and Ecoboost. There is a serious shortage of good looking, practical US built wagons. The sucess of the Jetta TDI Sportwagen and the release of the Prius V demonstrate a market niche for a high MPG car with space to spare. Not only would a Fusion Hyrbid Wagon be my car of choice, I think it could easily compete with higher end vehicles such as the Tesla Model S and Audi A7. Overall the design of the Fusion is very, very good. But with the hatchback roofline of the Evos, the Fusion could be simply stunning, and more practical!
