Ford Taurus: The Family Car Goes High Tech

How would you like a car that can check your blind spot? Or adapt to traffic on its own?  Or warn you about a potential collision? Meet the 2010 Taurus, and see what’s available to make your busy life easier and safer. It fits a lot of technology into a midsized American car.

Do you ever have trouble changing lanes? BLIS® can help

The Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®) has sensors that detect when another vehicle is present in your blind spot, and then illuminates a light on your sideview mirror to help alert you. Blind Spot Information System is one of the available safety systems on the 2010 Taurus.

How about cruise control that adapts to traffic?

Available adaptive cruise control is radar enabled cruise control that allows you to choose one of three pre-set gaps between your Taurus and the car in front of you. When sensors detect traffic slowing, or if a vehicle pulls in front of you, your vehicle slows down to maintain your minimum distance. When the system detects that traffic has cleared, your vehicle resumes your preset speed.

Collision warning with brake support

No one wants to think about having an accident. But this available feature may help to ease your mind. This technology works in conjunction with adaptive cruise control, and it helps in case an accident appears imminent. The system alerts you if it senses a potential collision with the car in front of you. A “heads-up” display, which simulates brake lights, flashes on the windshield. If you don’t react, the brakes will precharge and increase brake-assist sensitivity to provide full responsiveness when you do apply the brake.

My thoughts I would like to share Although FoMoCo. is working on a technology that monitors heart beat, I was thinking more on the lines of what Mercedes and other premium brands are offering in their vehicles in terms of safety. 1. BMW and Mercedes have something called Rabbit's eye which is a term used for two cameras mounted on either sides of the front bumper which can be used while at junctions and stop signs and certain areas that fall under the blind spot 2. Mercedes also offers Attention Assist which monitors driver's behavior and alerts with visual and audible warnings. I drove the S63 AMG from Pittsburgh to Toronto just to test the system and it is efficient. 3. Mercedes also offers a system that can compensate cross winds on highways. I drove the 12 Ford Escape back from Lewisburg to Charleroi, PA and experienced cross winds. I felt the drift at lower speeds. 4. Adaptive cruise control (offered on high end trims of the Explorer, Taurus and Edge) how about making it standard on SE and up trims? 5. BLIS (Blind Spot information System) can be standard on SE and up trims 6. There's a trim for everyone S, SE, SEL, Limited, Titanium. A vehicle with so many trims seems all over the map. Keep the S, SE with Limited and the Titanium. I work at a dealership and I have observed people getting confused which hampers their decision making and it al comes down to "LET ME TALK TO MY WIFE!!!" excuse. There are times when a Fusion SE\SEL or a Focus SE\SEL\Titanium ends up staying on the lot for more than 7-9 months. 7. Selling Eco-boost engines at a little extra is a good idea. A perfect match of performance and efficiency from a smaller displacement. Competition is high. Kia offers the Optima with 200 horsepower and EPA estimates 24\35. With the eco boost engines delivering more, why keep the NA 2.5 or 2.3 4 cylinder engine? People are willing to pay a little extra for long term gain. I have seen the F 150 sales go up because of the eco boost engines. Our first F150 eco boost lariat super cab lasted 4 hours. 8. Microsoft's SYNC. I play with it all the time and to make it more efficient Microsoft can eliminate the initial line "chime 'SYNC please say a command". I consider it as a lag. When I hit the button I would like to say the command. The system also repeats user input. Eliminate repetition with Confirm prompts. Being efficient. 9. Offer driving aids on the 4.3" display to improve fuel economy and driving behavior. All that I can think of right now
