One thing that Cadillac, Mercedes, and BMW has up on Ford and Lincoln, is rear wheel drive performance. The Taurus SHO has to be detuned from the F150 because of its predominantly FWD underpinnings. FWD setups produce torque-steer, and the components are not as tough as RWD. RWD is better, let's face it! The problem for RWD is on snow and ice. Ford really needs to have a look at the AWD set up on new Polaris ATVs. They are RWD, but have a 4x4 switch. When the 4x4 switch is engaged, the machine still sends all the power and torque to the back wheels, so it still feels like a RWD machine. When the back wheels begin to slip, the front wheels engage within 1/5th of a tire rotation. It retains RWD dynamics and reduced powertrain stress in 4x4 mode, and when the front engages when necessary, the engagement is imperceptible! If Ford adopted this set up, it would be the best AWD system on the market. It also means Ford can go back to RWD platforms, which is more prestigious and sporty, drives better, allows for more power and torque. They can perform very well in the colder climates too. Like Polaris, Ford should make it switchable so that I can still do burnouts when I want too! :)
