The 2010 Taurus SHO Takes Center Stage

JUL
01

The 2010 Taurus SHO is turning the heads at an esteemed and stylish men’s magazine – Esquire magazine has named the SHO its inaugural Car of the Year.

Editors evaluated nearly a dozen significant new cars before naming the 2010 Taurus SHO as its inaugural Car of the Year. The article appears in the magazine’s July issue.

“We had three main criteria in selecting the Esquire Car of the Year,” explained David Granger, editor-in-chief. “The vehicle needed to be a pleasure to drive and be capable of shortening your breath when you slam down the pedal. It needed to be gorgeous and aggressive, capable of eliciting stares and gawks. And it needed to be attainable – a vehicle that most men actually can buy and drive. The new Taurus SHO nailed all of these parameters.”

Competing with some of the best luxury sedans in the industry, Taurus SHO was the editor’s unanimous choice.

“The reason we care about the new Taurus can be boiled down to four words: Looks good, goes fast. With a 3.5-liter turbo V-6, dubbed EcoBoostTM, you get V-8 power with V-6 fuel economy,” said Esquire automotive correspondent, Ezra Dyer. “The SHO is a sleeper – a vehicle you can live with every day, that happens to have a secret under the hood.”

Frank Davis, the executive director for Ford North American Product Programs, says,” We’re thrilled and honored with this award.” Adding, Taurus and the SHO are Ford’s flagship sedans, and trusts that customers will be equally impressed.”

valued customer Please consider building a 4 cylinder turbo DIESEL small pickup truck with a 6-speed MANUAL transmission. I will be the first in line to buy one. MANUAL transmissions are for men. Auto trannies are for boys.

MrEd This looks like a great car, I hope it holds up well. I have been buying Toyota's and Nissans since I got several bad american cars in a row. If this car gets good reviews from owners after a year or so I will definitely consider buying one. I also like the looks of the new Fiesta hatchback. I wanted a new Focus hatchback when I bought my 2008 Versa but they discontinued making it. Hopefully this industry will make a comeback.

Jim Nyman How on earth is driving an electric car going to frees Saudi women and end terrorism ? Seriously, an electric car with comparable capability is not currently available and when available will cost much much more and will require much longer vehicle life cycles to economiclay possible.

Richard Youstir I saw a black prototype last month at Star Ford in Glendale, CA. It was so awsome. I had a "90 and "95 Sho and this one knocks off their socks. It is bigger and more comfortable. It's deatil and trim looks like the best of the Germans or Japaneese. Can't wait to drive on. I really don't want to spend money on a car right now, but this is going to push me into a real hard decision. I'm star struck

FITEBACH CONGRATULATIONS, FORD. I KNOW YOU CAN MAKE GREAT AMERICAN CARS WHEN YOU PUT YOUR MIND TO IT. THE 1986 FORD TAURUS WAS THE BEST CAR I EVER OWNED. REMEMBER: "TAURUS FOR US"? NOW DON'T MESS UP AND FORGET HOW TO MAKE GREAT TRUCKS AND SUVS.

Larry Ray - The technology involved in today's transmissions, including variable models, permit the automatic to be highly competitive with and in some cases exceed the effiency of manuals. I believe in the CVT's future!

Joe It's about time Ford made the Taurus look like somehting other then a wealfare car. Oh yes on Bio fules. They proved less power and produce more CO2 emissions, when yo ulook at burning and producing, then good old oil and they have a very big negative impact on food prices around the world. ie, they helped lead the way for starvation in 3rd world countries do to farmers tilling up their food crops for fuel crops. Food vs fuel? FOOD!

wayne Hey Don, you don't get it do you! It's called FREEDOM. In America we are free to purchase from a variety of options, and petro powered vehicles are what we choose. Why? because there is 100 years of development into them, making them a very refined mode of transportation. If "you" want an electric car that cost a lot more, goes far shorter distances, and depends on ever more expensive and in short supply electricity, you are "free" to do so, but don't force me, and 90% of others to do so... that is called socialism. Additionally why do you even believe we need non petro vehicles? Oh I know, because of the junk science of "global warming" Ever heard of Sun spots Don? That is the cause of climate change, not the politically empowering Gobal Warming, that idiots like you are fueling. If you want to help the environment, go to India, or China and convince them to "clean" something..., anything. Just stop giving away MY freedom so you can feel good!

Anthony I agree w/typical american. I don't understand why noone is making diesel hybrids.

TypicalAmerican the sooner you guys introduce Turbo (bio) Diesel Hybrids, the sooner you can return the America Auto Industry to a legitimate contender in the automotive market, worldwide. I hope you read this Ford. You're the only American Automotive Maker that still has a shot at retaking world market share.

Don Jusko It still runs on gas. Don't you get it? There are cars that run on electricity as fuel, cars that run on water fuel. Stop making cars that run on gas.

Garry McCabe I've owned 19 Ford products starting in 1961, and my 95 SHO was one of the best. However, after buying a 2001 Navigator..Ford, and I have parted company.

ray I think ford is doing a good job at it but they should build atleast 25 percent of all their divisions of automobiles they make cars , trucks , suv should be manual transmissions and we shouldn't be so lazy cause the world is getting lazy because of all the easy things we do in the world

Ed Jose As someone who has been a fan of European cars for many years, I am thrilled to see Ford get this award and I will be in the cheering section for all of the American manufacturers as long as they build cars that buyers want.

This is a green AND convenience idea: Bring back smaller wagons. The Taurus and Fusion can both use a wagon in the lineup... especially as Ford moves to a "world car" philosophy. I can EASILY imagine a Taurus SHO wagon on par with Cadillac, Mercedes & BMW... oorah!
