If you’re anywhere in the vicinity of Detroit on the third Saturday in August, you’ll get to experience the Woodward Dream Cruise, the largest single-day gathering of gearheads in the world, according to event organizers. Hot rods, musclecars, customs, and every other kind of wheeled conveyance you can think of, in addition to roughly 1.5 million spectators, will invade Woodward Avenue for a day of cruising and hanging out.
This year, the Mustang faithful have a special reason to attend, as twenty years of SVT performance and over 800 classic and modern Mustangs will be on display at Mustang Alley during the Dream Cruise. On Saturday, August 18, at the intersection of 9 Mile Road and Woodward Avenue, in Ferndale, Michigan, Mustang Alley will feature a mass of Mustangs from 1964 through current models, including the brand-new, 662 horsepower, 2013 Mustang GT500® and the Boss® 302. In addition, there will be a special display highlighting 20 years of SVT performance.
Also on hand will be celebrity race driver and drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr. performing in a specially constructed “burnout box” for spectators, as well as a raffle for a chance to win a one-of-a-kind 2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca, with proceeds benefiting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Michigan Chapter.
Run by more than 300 Ford volunteers, Mustang Alley is free to attend, so go check it out. It’s happening rain or shine, and should prove to be the hot spot during the Dream Cruise.
