You don’t have to be a gearhead to know what the Ford Mustang is. In fact, the car is so iconic, it’s a true fixture in pop culture! You know another thing with deep roots in pop culture? The pinball machine. And what happens when the two heavyweights converge?
Stern Pinball has resurrected the marriage of two, creating a new pinball game featuring the Mustang, as well as a premium game with the Mustang Boss 302, Boss 351 and Boss 429, and a limited-edition game paying tribute to the original Mustang and the new 2015 model. It’s not the first time the Mustang and pinball have united, however. Back in 1964, the now-defunct Chicago Coin Company gave it a go.
Stern is introducing the three new Mustang-themed games this spring featuring cabinet and backboard artwork that pay tribute to 50 years of Mustang. The pro-level machines, designed for arcades and other public spaces, feature Mustangs from the past five decades. In fact, pinball machines have gone pretty high tech and interactive, if you’ve been out of the loop for a while. For example, these Mustang-themed games will allow players to drag race, rally, drift and road race. Nailing targets with the ball equals gear shifts, and there are real-world Mustang sounds along the way.
Stern Pinball is among the companies launching officially licensed products giving a nod to 50 years of Mustang. Other licensees include Mattel with a 50 Years of Mustang Hot Wheels collection, Caddyshack with a limited-edition Shelby GT500 Mustang golf cart and the Mustang GT pedal go kart from Berg. A range of apparel and other products are available from shopfordmerchandise.com.
