Blind Man Driving: Unleashing One Man’s Dream

Driving a 2010 Ford Mustang convertible could get anyone excited, but for Roger Keeney, it was a dream he didn’t think he’d get to experience. That’s because Roger has been blind for the past 20 years.

By participating in “The ‘10 Unleashed” promotion, which asked people to describe their ultimate Mustang dream experience in 250 words or less, Roger was selected to make his dream come true.

Roger took a brand-new 2010 Ford Mustang convertible on an amazing ride, doing donuts on the pavement and attaining speeds of up to 90 mph. A video diary chronicling his extraordinary ride can be viewed at www.the2010mustang.com.

“When I got the phone call from Ford saying that I had won, I thought someone was playing a joke on me,” said Keeney, who lost his sight in a farming accident.

We flew Keeney down to the Ford Proving Grounds just outside of Phoenix, Ariz. With safety their number one concern, the Mustang team arranged for former professional racer Tommy Kendall to ride shotgun in the car.

“The most life-changing thing you can do for folks with disabilities is put them in a situation that everyone else has told them is impossible. The experience for me in the Mustang with Tommy Kendall next to me and driving that wonderful automobile was really great,” Roger added.

Ford Motor Company is giving consumers the opportunity to get in touch with their Mustang side through The ‘10 Unleashed campaign, part of its new 2010 Ford Mustang launch. Through Aug. 15, consumers will have the opportunity to live out their ultimate experience behind the wheel of a 2010 Ford Mustang – whether drifting in Japan like world champion Vaughn Gittin, Jr. or customizing a new Mustang using Ford Racing Performance Parts.

In addition to this video introduction, you can view a video diary chronicling his extraordinary ride at www.the2010mustang.com.

cole yeah the ford f-150 needs a diesel. actually they all need a diesel. they have the technology in europe (i just got back from there and saw with my own eyes) and with that they could raise the bar in competition between ford and the american and japanese auto makers. ford also needs to bring the ford kugo to america and replace the escape with it. or maybe just change the kugo badge to an escape badge...

Randall Wright Sr. I would like to see an 2010 Ford Mustang customized into looking the same but converted into an electric muscle car. All electric powered with that personal touch of green!

Everyone knows that the 5.0 has always been a power plant for the ford mustang, anyone who's owned one could tell you about the low end tourque put out vs the low end of the 4.6. To look back at the pushrod 5.0, you'll see it had a four inch bore for the piston, which gave it that low end umph. Looking at the present dohc modular 5.0 and the power it produces, if it also was equipped with a four inch bore, wouldn't the power outcome be greater????
more power
