Electric Vehicle Lifestyle? There’s an App for That
JAN
05

There’s a new technology upon us, and one that is unique for meshing coaching, social networking and fun in a green way. The Ford MyFord® Mobile app will allow Focus Electric owners to use a feature called Value Charging powered by Microsoft to optimize charging times, which can lower the utility bill by automatically charging the Focus Electric at off-peak times when energy is cheapest. This is an industry-exclusive to Ford! But wait, there’s more: You can also monitor charging, get alerts, find charging stations and share info from your smartphone or computer to places such as Facebook and Twitter.

What do we mean by coaching? The MyFord Mobile app and the Electric join forces to make your driving experience more efficient. What do we mean by social networking? The MyFord Mobile website will have leaderboards and networking within the community forum, where you can share your driving experience, answer questions drivers may have and provide helpful tips to others. And what do we mean by fun? As with a video game, you can earn achievements based on how far you drive and how much CO2 you save by not using gas. The leaderboards will help you track your driving results against other Focus Electric drivers.

There are also “surprise achievements” embedded in the app based on your activities (a concept similar to “Easter eggs” in a video game, scoring you extra points).

MyFord Mobile was announced in early 2011 as a social platform to revolutionize the electric vehicle driving experience. Read more about the app by clicking here. In November, the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) named the app winner of the software and mobile app category. Additionally, CES awarded MyFord Mobile the “Best of Innovation” recognition, a first for an OEM. Ford will showcase the beta version and new social networking components of the MyFord Mobile app with the new Focus Electric for the first time, live at the 2012 International CES, January 10-13, 2012, in Las Vegas. Click here to see all of our stories relating to the 2012 International CES.

The Focus Electric will be available through dealers in the first half of this year.

I have been in 7 accidents where i was either rear ended or sideswiped,in 13 years of living in the Austin ,TX area.People are now rude and disrectful of the safety of others. They disbey the traffic, especially speeding laws. They are in too big of a hurry. I would like to see front and rear bumpers made with a thick rubber or of some very resilliant materials.Something that would cause a car to bounce off the bumpers if it hits another car with a force. It has become a known fact that it doesn't take much force of an impact when rear ended, for an injury to occur, Especially to the neck, causing whiplash. i know airbags are a big safety issue. They aren't always the answer. i know that manufactures are making cars with lighter materials, for more fuel efficiency. I. would think there could be someone smart enough to come up with some material, maybe mixed in with a metal that would be more resiliant if hit. Maybe even different angles in the frame. to make your smaller cars safer. I like a larger vehicle because i probably would have been hurt worse than I have been in a smaller car. I have been focusing on your Ford Focus for my next vehicle when ever i can afford it. I would be more apt also to buy a smaller car.if i knew it had more safety and efficiency features, such as plenty of storage areas as, i travel freqently than they do now. another thing i just thought of. a vehicle needs to be equipped with an interior air cleaning system. i am highly allergic to many environmental allergies. I get very sleepy and after about an hour out on an interstate. I finally bought a small air cleaner for the car and found out that is what my problem is. i always have dreamed of having a vehicle that almost drives itself, because of when i do get tired. Wouldn't that be nice.I know that cruize control helps. i find that on my vehicle that if i don't manually turn my cruize off manually,it stays on and eats my gas up,as crazy as it sounds. So i tend to not use it often. i guess i am looking for the perfect car. Am focusing on a ford next time. I loved my 2 old Ford Station Wagons and Ford Fairlane.
More resilliant bumpers, safety features, air quality features.
