Executive Chairman Bill Ford on the Ford Electric Future

Executive Chairman Bill Ford will share his vantage point of the Ford Motor Company electric future, and the first look at the newest Ford electric offering. Join us as we live blog Friday, January 7, 2011, at 2 p.m. EST from the event.

Ford recently launched an electric vehicles section on fordvehicles.com. On the site, you can find video, text and diagrams to help understand the differences in the technologies of electrified vehicles.

Electrification is an important piece of the Ford overall product sustainability strategy. The aggressive strategy includes the launch of five new electrified vehicles in Europe and North America. In addition to Focus Electric, Ford will introduce the Transit Connect Electric small commercial van, two next-generation lithium-ion battery hybrids and a plug-in hybrid. The range of electrified vehicles allows Ford to address a variety of consumer driving needs.

The Ford electrification strategy also leverages the most fuel-efficient powertrains, the most technically competent hybrids and the company’s global vehicle platforms in order to develop affordable choices for consumers.

Marie Janes Marie Janes The Focus Electric is the perfect car for me to try out. I work at The University of Toledo and they put in charging stations for electric cars. My commute is about 90 miles round trip. It is the perfect car for me.

Chris Gilmartin You should make a production version of the Reflex as Dan Reidy is right about EVs with 100 mile range in a country that is 3,000 miles wide. My commute is 115 miles per day and I do it with a 2000 ZX2. I would like to replace that car, but want one that allows me to use the HOV lanes (Fusion Hybird does not qualify in CA). I can not understand why the Reflex has not be turned into a production car. Hybrid with a desiel powertrain is the way to go. If you can get 55 to 65 mpg with something that looks like the Reflex I think you have a major hit, even if it is in the 30K range. Don't make me buy a Prius
