Check out Ford at the North American International Auto Show

Not long ago (what, like three weeks?), telling someone he had his head in the clouds was not necessarily a good thing. Say that now and it means he is a tech-savvy hipster! If you’ve never heard the phrase “the cloud” or “cloud computing” before, it looks like it’s here to stay and you need to bone up on it, which rather loosely means you can access data hosted off-site (think: virtual server) from pretty much anywhere online.

Why is this relevant to Ford? Because cloud computing is the next big thing for in-vehicle technology, and the Ford show display at the 2012 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit will give attendees a view from “the Cloud,” providing a sneak peek of what’s in store for Blue Oval vehicles.

The display will allow Ford to showcase future trends, such as Changing Population Demographics, Emerging Technologies and Living Green. There will also be a super cool 20-foot-tall elevator to take visitors up to “the Cloud” for a 360-degree film showcasing the future of Ford in-car technology. Visitors to the Ford display will also be able to drive with motorsports star Ken Block, take a ride in a Mustang on the dyno or use trivia to plan out their next great “Escape.” We like to call it “augmented reality.”

Other exciting news is that the Ford display will feature the first-ever Blue Oval Card, offering a more focused, personalized experience for visitors. By registering online to receive a Blue Oval Card for accessing relevant content throughout their time in the Ford display, visitors will be able to capture videos that play, share a photo with their Facebook friends and even submit an opinion that will be displayed on the LED screens that appear on the stand.

NAIAS will be open to the public Saturday, January 14 through Saturday, January 21, 2012. For more info, visit www.naias.com.

Christopher Esker While I generally admire the direction Ford design is taking, don't let grillitis get the better of Ford like it's done to Mazda and Audi. I realize that Euro-specific pedestrian standards are going to strongly influence frontal design, but do we really have to see gaping grills and gills on every model?

shellby bretschneider This high tech stuff is great and all Ford. But don't let it come before the reliability of your vehicles that everyone has come to expect from Ford.

Gerald Preuss CI came to the site to get some idea of the appointments, trim levels, accessories and prices. The only thin even remotely close was on the Ford Fiesta. Now I'm not sure I will take the time or effort to drive 30+ to the nearest dealer.

matt jackson huge fan of fords, thats why i was upset when i stopped by the ford booth, and not one fiesta was there to check out. looking at its competition at the show, makes it hard to make a decision on what i want. my suggestion, get a few fiestas out there.

Domenic Comparetto I really want to express my feeling on the 2011 Ford Edge I purchased. I am 63 years old and have never been so excited and impressed by a vehicle as I am the Edge I purchased. From the very first time I actually looked at the Edge it impressed me like no other vehicle in my life. Not MyFordTouch, but everything about the vehicle is so impressive. I tell all my friends and anyone about how impressive this vehicle is. I have never written to any auto companies after I purchased a vehicle. When I watch the Ford advertisements on TV, I truly understand and agree with what Ford is doing. I am not asking , but I could definitely do an advertisement for the Edge, because I believe in what Ford is doing and absolutely love the Edge.Thank You, Domenic Comparetto

jason miller Hey Guys I have ALWAYS owned a FORD But You don't make a 2 dooe other than a mustang (owned a Mach 1 in the mid 70's) No Marks left no T birds or Cougars? Why don't you care what I a loyal buyer for over 30 years wants and yes needs?

Reemus Ford indeed has come a long way. In Canada 2 years in a row the NUMBER 1 automaker. Over 40 Years Number 1 Truck. Best SUV's on the planet! Vitrual Tours would be great but will never replace the test drive. With a good salesperson that knows the product and you don't put time constraints on learning why Ford products are your choice in your next automobile then you will experience and see a world of difference. Take the time. Learn, DRIVE ONE !

Ford Fan Ford is my number 1 in my back but 2013 looks terrible i do not like the 2013 ford escape 2013 ford fusion 2012 focus and you ended the ford ranger and ford crown victoria and bronco. the 2011 ford explorer terrible. at least put a V6 in the new 2013 fusion make a svt and make its so people can actually afford it and not so many bells and wislles make it nice and kinda fast like the 2012 fusion sport V6 and bring back bronco your suv lineup is all soccor mom suvs.

Ronda Alex how about a real virtual experience for these cars and trucks? not just photos and videos - when we will be able to actually take a virtual tour of these vehicles on our own computers?
