Ask Ford
Q.

When is Ford going to bring their Euro/Asia/South America Diesels to the states, specifically for the Ranger?

A.

No plans for diesels in North America yet. We continually look at the overall cost-of-ownership equation and feel our investment in EcoBoost® technology — direct-injection and turbocharged gasoline powertrains — offers the best value to the customer. If diesel prices come down or there are significant changes in U.S. emissions regulation, we will of course reassess our plans. But for now, we are able to deliver fuel economy that is at or near the top in every vehicle segment and that is our priority.

Thomas T I owned a Ranger Diesel in 1986, after 380K miles I sold it, average MPG was 45 MPG. Why can't the diesel Ranger in Brazil or Aisa be imported? Diesel offers more tourqe than the gas . That is why I own a super duty also

Juston P If no Diesel, why not keep the current Ranger Single Cab and offer the 2.0L EcoBoost™ I-4, 6-speed Select Shift Auto, and Class II Trailer Tow Package? Also an Optional: Four Wheel Drive.

David D Also, why not apply EcoBoost technologies to diesel motors? Wouldn't the direct-injecting and turbocharging of a diesel engine create a more efficient engine than the gas engine that starts off as less efficient?

David D Mark S: The 2012 Ford Ranger Diesel has a rating of 37.2mpg for the 2.2 Duratorq 4x2. The 2011 Ford Ranger 2.3 4x2 has a rating of 27mpg. The current U.S. Nation Average Price for fuel as of 3/15/2012 are $3.821/gallon for Regular Gasoline and $4.122/gallon for Diesel. So, 27mpg/$3.821gallon is 7.066 miles per $1 for the gas truck/ 37.2mpg/4.122gallon is 9.025 miles per $1 for diesel truck. So, the diesel provides an extra 2miles per dollar.
