Ask Ford
Q.

What has stopped the company from installing spin-on type transmission filters?

A.

The question doesn’t apply to our transmissions because most of our automatic transmissions are sealed for the life of the vehicle, and under normal usage, do not require fluid or filter changes until at least 150,000 miles.

Frank Huber Screw on Transmission filters, never had a car with one, do they exist? You dont change a filter without changing the fluid. Now the transmission fluid is exchanged by a external machine and the internal filter is not replaced. No need to drop the pan.

Kevin J That answer is how you tell upper management that it's not needed and therefore can save $15. However, as you and I know there is no such thing as 'normal usage'. Given Ford does not build transmissions and neither does any other automaker, what an automotive manufacturer tests under 'normal conditions' that does not relate to the real world. I am a Ford owner through and through, but come on buddy; we both know changing fluids before their recommended service interval is cheap insurance.....at least for those of us who pay attention.
