Ask Ford
Q.

Would it be possible to make ecoboost engines out of the 2.5L I-4 and the 3.7L Ti-VCT V6? These could power large vehicle in the lineup.

A.

Yes. It is possible to apply our EcoBoost® technology to larger engines. But that is not what we are planning. The future of engines at Ford is smaller and more powerful, not larger. The current EcoBoost engines,— the 1.0L direct injection TiVCT EcoBoost I3 (not available in north America), 1.6L direct injection TiVCT EcoBoost I4, 2.0L direct injection TiVCT I4 and 3.5L V6—are in their first generation. I can tell you our engineers are just getting started tapping the potential of what EcoBoost can do. As with many electronic devices, watch for our engines to shrink in size, yet increase the amount of power they generate.
