could the new 2.0 ecoboost engines handle an "overboost" situation? on a repetitive basis?
The 2.0L EcoBoost® engine in the ST has been designed to handle repetitive “overboost” torque requests. Dynamometer testing was conducted at overboost torque levels to help ensure long-term engine durability. The “overboost” or “over torque” operation, which is limited to 20 seconds for each event, does not exceed any of the design limits of the engine. The base torque output for the 2.0L was established for vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions. The additional torque capacity of the manual transmission in the ST enables us to implement the “overboost” strategy.
