Ask Ford

Why can't some people get what they want? So many people prefer manual transmissions in F series Trucks and other cars.

We no longer offer manual transmissions in F-Series trucks because demand for manual transmissions has fallen to very low levels while at the same time we’ve improved the robustness and fuel efficiency of our automatic transmissions. For example, the 6R140 six-speed automatic transmission for F-Series Super Duty® can be paired with either our 6.2L V8 gas engine or our available 6.7L V8 Power Stroke® Diesel. One of its smart features is a manual shift mode that allows drivers to select the exact gear they desire, as long as they don’t go over redline. The gear select display in the instrument cluster shows the selected gear, and the transmission control system will lock the torque converter and hold that gear for a full manual transmission feel. Manual transmissions are still available for the Ford Fiesta, Focus and Fusion cars and F-650 and F-750 medium-duty trucks.

Dissapointed I was about to go buy a F-150 extended or super cab to get room for a passenger and my dog to ride inside the cab. On my way out I decided to check the online inventory quickly and discovered the total lack of manual transmissions. Guess who is not buying a Ford truck anymore.

Jessi My husband desperately wanted a Raptor. After hearing that Ford trucks are no longer able to be bought new with a manual transmission, he is rethinking his decision, but definitely won't be buying a new Ford truck. Why on earth would it not at least be an option?

Lenny W With all due respect, Mike, I appreciate the fact that you have accomidated the manual transmission fans with the technology of the smart shift features...However, it really doesn't cut it for those who want that old-school stick shift operation(for lack of a better term), like myself who has grown up on the Ford 4 and 5-speed transmissions. I understand that the demand for automatic transmissions have skyrocketed through the years, but I personally think that you should have an actual manual transmission as an option. If you want any motivation...Dodge still offers the 6-speed in the Ram 3500-5500 models...and we all know how you are constantly competing with each other.

I will not buy a new Ford Super Duty truck untill you offer a manual transmission for it!!! I like the 6.7L diesel but without a manual trans mission it is useless to me. there is no way that ANY automatic is as efficiant as a manual trans.
