Ask Ford
Q.

Is it true that batteries in hybrids last longer than those in all-electric vehicles? If so why?

A.

Ford designs all of our vehicles, including our electric and hybrid vehicles, to meet high levels of quality and durability. As we’ve seen with our hybrids, Ford electric powertrain components have proven to be very durable during hundreds of millions of miles of operation the past decade. This includes Ford hybrid taxi fleet, which has logged more than 80 million miles in California alone in very grueling conditions. Yet, among the nearly 43 million battery cells Ford has tested or seen put to work in customer vehicles, only five issues have been documented. We expect high quality with our new Focus Electric, too, which is why we will offer it with the same 10-year powertrain limited warranty* as our hybrids.
